Has anyone ever used the vinyl stripe kit from Phoenix Graphix and do you like them? The way I am looking at it is the stripe kit is closers to original than paint under the clear coat. I am just wondering how they will hold up and if the will look bad after time.

My car is getting real close to paint and I am undecided although I already have the kit from Phoenix.

If origionality is your goal as you state; the factory painted the stripe on the fender and the door was a decal. High performance vinyl has good longevity. Every sign you see is vinyl, but not necessarily H.P.

Is the Phoenix stuff considered high performance. How do the look and feel once on? Would using these vinyl stripes be cosidered cheesey?

I would assume they are H.P. Lesser grades are thicker. HP vinyl is guaranteed up to 7 yrs ( conservatively) with 24/7 direct outdoor exposure. Some I've done over 15 yrs ago are still fine. Cheesy? That depends on the observer. Decals/paint, Over/under clear is subject to the owner. I did a rust free L-78 with build sheet for my friend the way the factory did it. He would not have it any other way. They don't bother me either, but I would not do the whole D90 in decals. Bottom line is you have 3 options. Your choice.

Painting them on will more than likely be more expensive, but if it were my Camaro (and I'll be crossing this bridge later on) I would do it. Vinyl decals only introduce another possibility for issues later on. Paint will last as long as you wax and take care of the car.

I never like the waxy buildup on the edges of the paint and vinyl, so I opted for painted stripes with clear over. I know it is not original, but I opted for the less maintenance route.

I was at a show the other day and there was a 69 there with vinyl...it looked great! I had to get right up on it to see it was vinyl. After seeing this I plan to go this route becasue I cant decide on white or black over orange. So, i will go black and If I like it have them painted on at a later date or just keep the vinyl.

Who has installed the vinyl stripes?

I'm thinking of getting the bumble bee vinyl stripe for my car, but want it to look good. Is the installation difficult to get a nice clean look?

One thing about the D90 stripe, maybe 1 in 50 get it right. Do the research to position them correctly.

I did see one that looked great at a show in calabasas, ca. All vinyl. Guy said he got them off ebay. said it was easy to put on. Who knows. I am going to do this as well with white to see if i like it. If no then black next. once i get it the way i like it they are comming off to be painted on at some point.

I painted mine on with this kit from "Stencils and stripes unlimited"

Have a look:

Part number 1051065A

Although they might not have been the easiest to apply, with patience, I believe they came out good. I understand they they are patterned off of EXACT Chevy D-90 size/location specs.

You be the judge:
