I am putting together a big block. I have scribed the gasket shape onto the block in order to create the valve laybacks. do you guys have a spec on how far down into the cylinder I should I should take it?

Milan, I'm just finishing my 496BB and did the same thing. Do you know how far in the hole the pistons sit? I decked to zero, and then I measured the piston from the flat on top to the first ring groove, then I subtracted 0.050" and scribed my marks that far down the cylinder. DON'T go too far, otherwise you may get blow by, premature ring wear, etc. Are you running larger valves, and what bore? If you are 4.25 bore (454ci) and stock valves you may not need the reliefs unless you simply want to unshroud the valves.

Thanks, Its a stock bore Im just unshrouding the valves I did just as you suggested. I believe I'll go down .125 into the bore. It is just to avoid the ledge from onshrouding the valves I guess I can always go back and do more later.
