View Full Version : HAZARD light issue
tdb11 Jul 6th, 09, 10:57 AM Hi, Posted this under "Electrical" with not much feedback. Thought I'd retry here! Thanks all--
Working out the bugs after my resto. Having issues with my rear tail lights not flashing while HAZARD button is pressed in on steering column (69 w/ RS package).
1. All rear and front lights function (brake, blinker, tail and headlights, side markers).
2. The relay controlling the HAZARDS was BAD. Replaced it, now only the front lamps flash while HAZARD is pressed in.
3. Bulbs appear to be fine.
Seems like possible ground issue, but if so, why would all other rear light functionality work?
I've scoured over the electrical schematics and it doesn't seem like the HAZARD switch would control front and rear separately...it appears to be configured for LH and RH.... (dark blue, light blue)
Thoughts anyone?
Thanks!
alanrw Jul 6th, 09, 11:18 AM Have you checked the Hazard warning light wiring diagram in the electric section?
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=93576
It shows that after the hazard switch, the circuit goes thru the turn switch assembly and then back to the tail lights. Possibly the turn switch assembly has an issue?
Best to trace it with either a test light or a DVM

click Jul 6th, 09, 11:35 AM Tom is still belongs in Elec. section. With the holiday alot of questions have not yet found answers. Doubling posting wont help. I will move this back and Im sure folks will reply in due time.

Thanks Alan. That link is password protected. However, I have been using the 69 Chassis manual with those schematics. Blinker work and I installed a new switch cam assy. Could I have messed that up? Hate to take that retaining ring off again !
alanrw Jul 6th, 09, 12:53 PM Well, ya gotta trace it. One possibility would be to turn on the hazard flashers and then insert a test probe into the harmonica electrical connector on the steering column and see if you are getting voltage at that point. That will tell you if you have voltage going up to the cam switch and back out when you touch the appropriate wires.

Thx Alan-
Just tested an probe lamp flashes with the hazard light switch engaged at the harmonica connector on the steering column. Which makes sense as the front parking lamps flash just fine...unless I'm missing something, it appears that the wiring is set up to feed Left and Right, not Front and Back?
Thanks Again, off to ponder the schemtics again :boring:

My Bad....Front blinker and hazard voltage OK on haromonica connector. Rear Blinker OK---Rear hazard NO VOLTAGE coming thru harness!! I misread the schematics.
Suggestions? Definitely something behind steering wheel!
alanrw Jul 7th, 09, 09:45 AM Yeah, according to the wiring diagrams, juice comes into the column, up to the hazard switch and then to the cam switch where is splits out to the front and rear. Sounds like it is getting to the cam switch and that's it.

tdb11 Jul 7th, 09, 11:44 AM Yep, we'll get into it after work. Thanks!
1996jeep Jul 8th, 09, 09:26 PM I had a problem with the hazards not working. We weren't getting juice from the fuse box on the brown wire that feeds to the turn signal switch- or connection on top of steering column under dash... we spliced the brown to the purple wire- used for turn signals-- now hazards work
