: Just bought this on eBay...thoughts?
h-bomb Jul 7th, 09, 07:18 AM Hey guys.
New to the site, but have had several first gens over the years. After a few old Mopars, I've come back to being a Camaro owner.
I just bought this on eBay...can't wait for it to get here (should be next week!)
Did I do OK?

XLexusTech Jul 7th, 09, 07:28 AM I hope you did well. If that car is clean when you get it and not just pretty rust then you did very well form where I am sitting.!
Congrats!
thorpe67RS Jul 7th, 09, 07:34 AM You did very well if its in the same condition in person as it is in the pics. But of course, when you buy something on ebay sight unseen the jury is always out until you get it home and see it in person.
canX11 Jul 7th, 09, 07:43 AM I think you did great....do you have plans to rip out the Six? or are you leaving it the way it was born? Looks like a nice car......might not need much to bring it to the next level...ya right....how many times have we eaten those words,LOL. Congrats and I am glad you came back to your senses (getting rid of the Mopars,LOL). Enjoy!!
h-bomb Jul 7th, 09, 07:50 AM Thanks guys. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Plans are to keep her original for now...
madmax87 Jul 7th, 09, 08:48 AM Boy you don't see many going for that price anymore, especially running and that good of condition. Way to GO!
purecam Jul 7th, 09, 09:32 AM Looks like a hell of a deal.. I paid 4 for a giant turd
h-bomb Jul 7th, 09, 09:36 AM Looks like a hell of a deal.. I paid 4 for a giant turd
LOL...not sure yet if this just isn't a shiny one!
Jonesy Jul 7th, 09, 04:48 PM Depends on the underside - floorboards, trunk, trunk drop offs, rear wheel wells, frame rails etc. If that is all rusted out then maybe not. Not one pic of any of that in the auction. Good Luck!
nutchevy Jul 7th, 09, 05:31 PM looks like a good deal, know more once you see in person.
DougP Jul 7th, 09, 05:38 PM Good price for a nice looking car - I hope there are no hidden surprises
Z282NV Jul 7th, 09, 05:42 PM You have guts buying something without a personal inspection. I hope it turns out better than you want it to be.
tejasrs/ss Jul 7th, 09, 07:42 PM looks good! good score!
1968guppy Jul 7th, 09, 08:18 PM Sweet... The lines look great on the 69. Good luck in the restoration and may there be few unexpected surprises.
joels Jul 7th, 09, 08:22 PM Congrats, my brother was bidding on this same car against you.
Chevy1 Jul 7th, 09, 09:04 PM Congrats, looks good from the pics and description, hope it meets your expectations.
h-bomb Jul 8th, 09, 06:25 AM Congrats, my brother was bidding on this same car against you.
Ouch -- was that him I sniped at the last few seconds?
If so, tell him I'm sorry! :(
Joe Harrison Jul 8th, 09, 10:55 AM Ouch -- was that him I sniped at the last few seconds?
If so, tell him I'm sorry! :(
That is a possible good deal for you or maybe you did the other guy a favor ;)
I think the e-bay add is sorta funny, it's a truck sales place and it says the "truck floors" are in good condition. It will be intresting to see what you get but I hope you did good. We read about so many ebay rip offs but there has to be honest people selling a Camaro or two on there. Post up lots of pics when you get her home!!
h-bomb Jul 8th, 09, 12:12 PM The car is tentatively scheduled to be picked up Monday the 13th and delivered here Wednesday the 15th.
I'm hoping for the best, but am prepared for a few surprises...you just never know.
Thanks again for all the comments guys. I'll post up lots of pics next week and we can decide if I made out or got burned!
captblue1 Jul 8th, 09, 12:41 PM If there is some rust, are you going to be that upset? It is still a camaro
h-bomb Jul 8th, 09, 12:44 PM If there is some rust, are you going to be that upset? It is still a camaro
Nah...that's why I said I'm prepared for a few surprises. I don't expect it to be perfect by any means.
But I can't help but hope that I lucked out and it really is as nice as it looks! :hurray:
Brandan Jul 8th, 09, 08:29 PM be sure to post how it comes out
chevypower Jul 9th, 09, 05:38 PM I hope it is better than the giant turd I bought sight unseen a couple of years ago. I did pay a good chunk more than you did but it had a new crate 350 and R4 transmission. When I saw it come off the truck I wanted to cry!! Looked great in the pics but I've got close to 13 grand or so in body work, paint, and new metal. I hope it turns out well for you.
XLexusTech Jul 14th, 09, 04:03 PM Well did you get it yet?
NHBandit Jul 15th, 09, 05:35 AM Times sure have changed when a guy in Georgia is buying a car from Rhode Island. Used to be us Yankees going south to find the rust free older cars but the internet and reasonable shipping costs have changed all that. Last year I shipped an 87 Monte SS from NH to a buyer in Arkansas because he couldn't find any down there that were reasonably priced. Looks good in the pics but like the others have said, you'll know soon enough.
h-bomb Jul 15th, 09, 05:58 AM Haven't gotten it yet -- the transporter had to change the schedule due to the car he was taking up that way not being ready on time. :(
Now the plan is to pick it up between Saturday the 18th and Monday the 20th and deliver it soon thereafter. :hurray:
The suspense is killing me!
In the meantime, I bought these for it:

thorpe67RS Jul 15th, 09, 06:36 AM Ah yes, so it begins. Don't even have the car yet and already spending money on it. Start that snowball rolling down that hill. :)
h-bomb Jul 21st, 09, 06:13 AM The car will be delivered today...wish me luck. I'll post up pictures as soon as I can!
XLexusTech Jul 21st, 09, 07:12 AM Good Luck!
Skeeter55 Jul 21st, 09, 08:12 AM Please post some pics and good luck..

71maligreen Jul 21st, 09, 04:14 PM my guts would be in knots and i would be sweating my arse off wondering if it were me!! thats why i would NEVER buy sight unseen!!!
Skeeter55 Jul 21st, 09, 04:20 PM I chewed off all my finger nails for the guy and i hope it all goes well for him.
joels Jul 21st, 09, 04:41 PM Well?? don't keep us waiting. What cha got??

h-bomb Jul 21st, 09, 08:08 PM Guys, I gotta say...I got lucky.
The "little scrape" on the quarter is pretty bad, and revealed an old bondo repair, but I kind of expected that. There's some old bondo in the fender that is falling out from rust behind it, but there's no "little rust in passenger door" that the seller mentioned. I think he meant the fender spot.
Floors are perfect.
Trunk pan has surface rust only.
ZERO bubbles under the vinyl top.
Interior is mint, save for the typical warped and separated dash pad.
Car looks incredible from 20 feet.
Vinyl top is perfect.
Engine runs great, and the trans shifts fine.
Drives well down the road, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it has power steering!
In all, I'm thrilled. It was late when the car was delivered, so I didn't get too much time with it, and my camera battery died quickly.
I'll dive in with both feet and post up more later!
OK, enough talk -- on to the pics as promised:

ddx77 Jul 21st, 09, 08:32 PM Looks like a great car!

1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Jul 21st, 09, 08:37 PM Your new wheels/tires should really set it off.
Skeeter55 Jul 21st, 09, 08:38 PM Hey no fair you get better gas mileage then i do... Congrats looks like you did well.
camaro6te7 Jul 21st, 09, 09:38 PM That is a nice looking car. I love the color. Drive the heck out of it!
BelAirBob Jul 21st, 09, 09:43 PM Rally Green is a great color. Well done!
71maligreen Jul 21st, 09, 10:23 PM i had similar wheels on my last 69 here is a pic and btw looks like a descent ride!!!!
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a351/Tonystoys123/007_4A_0001.jpg
Alabamcam Jul 21st, 09, 10:31 PM I would say you did very well. Congrads on a mighty fine 69.
71Maligreen, what type of wheels are on your 69 pictured?
speedfreek Jul 22nd, 09, 04:17 AM Very nice car. GREEN is my favorite color! :D
h-bomb Jul 22nd, 09, 06:38 AM Thanks for all the positive comments, everyone!
:beers:
Joe Harrison Jul 22nd, 09, 06:55 AM Hey not bad!! Remove those slotted what ever they are truck wheels and get those torque thrusts on it ASAP!! It will look like it 's worth 2K more with the new wheels!! Solid floors, trunk and other areas are a great find. You have to expect bondo in the areas you have mentioned.
Joe
Steiner Jul 22nd, 09, 07:25 AM The trunk looks like it could possibly be a drop-in pan. May want to drop the gas tank and see although you might be able to see without doing that. That's what I found in mine this weekend when my tank came out but they did a poor job....just glued it down and then sprayed the top with splatter paint. I seam-sealered it and put down Duplicolor truck bedliner.
It looks good regardless. Hopefully you won't find all the nasty booby traps like mine has in it.
canX11 Jul 22nd, 09, 07:36 AM Looks good....congrats on the great deal and yes, the Bondo is expected...the car is 40 years old for crying out loud....what we all seem to forget is that almost everyone who bought these cars back in 69', they used it as a daily driver or they raced them.....look at our daily drivers and all the parts we replace and dings and dents or fender benders over the years.
camarodude67 Jul 22nd, 09, 07:37 AM Congrats, not a bad price considering the car is in 1 piece.. Now get rid of that 6...lol.... Have fun.

1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Jul 22nd, 09, 04:55 PM Congrats! The last 69 camaro convertible i bought sight unseen from a 40 yr old female was just as described, as a matter of fact it was better than she described.
anickel-67cpe Jul 22nd, 09, 04:55 PM Looks like you did OK. Enjoy it.
fordpowerjoke Jul 22nd, 09, 08:49 PM You lucked out! Ebay is always a gamble. I bought a 67 vert out of Iowa and have basically replaced every piece of sheetmetal rear of the doors. Lesson learned.....Nice find and hope you drive the heck out of it. :beers:Jeff
purecam Jul 22nd, 09, 09:12 PM Nice car.. Congrats... What is the name of that bumblebee/hood stripe?? I have seen it a few times, but haven't heard what it is called...

herbyjr Jul 25th, 09, 04:24 PM It looks great with the new wheels and it'll make a great base car for whatever you are planning to do. So...What are your plans? Keeping it original? Dropping in a big motor? What????? I'm just anxious to hear what you are planning.
H.
h-bomb Jul 25th, 09, 04:38 PM I think I'm going to keep it original.
herbyjr Jul 25th, 09, 04:49 PM Excellent! It is sure to go up in value. You could probably turn it now for a profit if you wanted, but I hope you keep it awhile and enjoy!
H.
69CamaroRT Jul 25th, 09, 05:07 PM i think its great that your keeping it original. not many people keep the sixes anymore. theres a guy on here that fixed his straight six up pretty nicely. looks good for the money that you bought it for. like the new wheels also.
Steiner Jul 25th, 09, 05:40 PM I seem to remember years ago reading about a 300hp build up on a straight six. Maybe it was in Car Craft.
By the way, are those photos taken off Medlock Bridge?
h-bomb Jul 25th, 09, 06:52 PM By the way, are those photos taken off Medlock Bridge?
Close! They're in the Publix parking lot on Jones Bridge at 120.
