I took in my 68 camaro for a leak and they fixed my power sterring pump, oil gasket leak and new pulleys and many other things and when i got home i noticed the same leak still pouring. I took a pix as you see below and it's a line going into the transmission. It seems there is a bolt in the way and it's not allowing it to close all they way. Do you guys know if its suppose to be like this ? Or does that bolt suppose to be out of the way ? Thanks

Looks like your speedo cable. The bolt holds a keeper that engages a slot in the "insert" that holds the plastic speedo gear.

There is an Oring that can be replaced just above the keeper and bolt you see (dont drop the speedo gear in the tranny). It is probably ok like it is..just keeps it from falling out...but I like to turn them so they are engaged fully.

I also dab some silicon in the "ferrule" that is crimped to the cable at the lower right of your photo (will need to remove oily residue first)...is that where its leaking? Or is it leaking up where the bolt and keeper is?

you can replace the speedo driven gear "bullet" it is probably worn and the orings inside and around outer part are worn....have had leaks there before and that solved the problem..

Here is what is inside all that stuff... easy fix with new O rings and dont forget O ring inside the cap part too.

Also, the cap gets grit inside that prevents the cap from screwing on all the way and sealing. A real good cleaning and new O-rings should do it.

You guys are sure pros. Thanks for letting me know what it is, i will let my mechanic know to replace it. The thing that bothers me is that i took my camaro in to fix this leak and i came out with a $1500.00 dollar bill and it is still leaking ? None of the things they fixed are this ?

Seems like a bit of warranty work is in order.

Great picture, Jim.

I replaced the whole piece shown here and it still leaking tranny fluid. The only thing i did not get is that blue gear that is with it. I had it replaced with this exact piece. Any suggestions or is it because i did not get that blue gear behind it ? Here is a pix below of the piece i had replaced.

I put in a new engine and fixed a million things on my 68 but the one thing that i did never fix is this transmission leak ? Why is it so complicated ? I took it in and replaced the part you see below in the pix. Two shops said they can't do it and it need to go to a transmission specialist ? I will have to make the time to go. Can anyone advise me on this part and what it's missing and how much it will run ? It's a pretty huge leak and i add tranny fluid every two weeks, not much but my pan on the floor does get soaked after a while.
Just to be clear, this part they did replace but it still leaking. So what could it be ?
