I want to add a console to my 68 with the factory gauges and replace the fuel gauge in the cluster with a tic-toc-tac. What all am I going to need? I see various harnesess for conversion etc but it's confusing.
Any pics would be fantastic.
Also I was just comparing the repro gauges to a pic I have in a 68 sales brochure and the gauges are different. In the original the gauges are not separated.

Well I'm going to need some help with this one. I just ran into a great deal from a local guy who had bought a ton of repro parts for his 68 vert and decided to bale on the project so I picked up gauges, wiring harnesses and tic toc tac. The only problem is that I have a 4 speed and his harnesses are for an automatic. Does anyone know what the difference is? Will I be able to adapt them to my 4 speed? It seems like neutral safety switch and backup light would be all that's different. I'll have to study the diagrams and instructions to see if I can figure it out.

The back up wires need to be moved to switch on the tranny and the neutral wires on the wiring harness need to be tied together. Thats all I did when I went to my TKO600 from a 700R4.
Did you get the engine harness's? you will need them or a conversion harness. Also the printed circuit board needs to be changed out when you add the tach...about $85.
Let me know as I had bought some adaptor harness's before I decided to replace all my wiring let me know what you need and I'll dig it out.

I have two harnesses I believe. He had one wired up to the gauges and the other is a conversion harness. Here's a pic. The instructions came with the conversion harness to the left. Do these two harnesses attach to each other? It appears the wire colors all match up but it looks like a wierd junction. And then what is the other female junction box that is stubbed off the male junction on the conversion harness? It only has 7 of the 12 wires to it. And then where do all these connect to the car?
Also how do I tell if these gauges have a low fuel indicator?

It's hard to make out what exactly you got there. Is there a manufacture's name and part number on the instructions?

He got the wiring harness from Classic Industries and they aremade by American Autowire Systems, sub titled Factory Fit automotive wiring and part number CA6806. I think I have a handle on how it all works now. You say I need to connect the purple and purple/white that would have gone to the netral safety switch? Then the other extra wires are pink (hot) that goes to backup switch on trans and light green that comes back from that switch and goes on to the backup lamps. I'm just not sure where to connect that light green wire. The car just went off to the shop so I can't check but as I remember it there was a light green wire loose under there that used to go to the switch so I probably just need to connect it to that.
I'm still stumped on that extra junction box that's stubbed off the main one on the wiring harness.

Are you refering to the extra hook up pig tail that about 2 inches wide or so? If you got a automatice conversion harness, then you have a plug that plugs into the guages. Then you have one that excepts the plug from the factory auto harness that controls the console lights, back up switch and safety neutral switch and one to fit the origion harness down there. I know im not explining it clearly, sorry.
