Looks like my ignition lock broke. The key will not turn back past on to even turn the car off. It will go to start. If I get the switch halfway between on and start I can get the key out. Good thing it's a 5 speed so I can kill the engine (then turn the battery switch off).
New lock on order and I have read the post on replacing it.
From what I have read, it appears you need the key to be in the off or acc position to get the lock cylinder out. Hope this is not the case.
Any hints?
Thanks as always.

Is the inner part of your column secured in the position where you should be able to rotate the key and remove it. With the TKO, you obviously do not have the OE backdrive linkage that makes sure the car is in park (auto) or reverse (manual). Is the tab at the base of the column (engine side) wired up so that it stays in the right position?

Yeah, that part is OK. It is wired up tight. Even if that was the issue it would still turn to the off position.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something simple.
Sometimes the sector gear behind the lock cylinder or te rack can have issues, but it almost sounds like the rod between the lock cylinder and the ignition switch is hanging up, or there is an issue with the ignition switch itself.
There's a good description of the key lock/ignition switch system in post #4 of this thread: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=141071&highlight=sector+gear
Have you lowered the column down and checked that the ignition switch and rod are working okay?

Well we changed the ignition lock out Sunday. It didn't matter that it was stuck in the on position. It was a bit tedious but easy.
It was definitely the ignition lock. Even on the work bench it won't budge.
Thaks again.
