View Full Version : 67-68 Brake/Clutch pedal assembly
keithl1967 Jul 11th, 09, 03:06 PM I had purchase a brake and clutch pedal assembly from Classic Industries (part number C681) about three months ago. I just attempted to put it on the car today, and the holes are not drilled large enough for the clevis pin to connect the pedal to the master cylinder arm (VERY CLose, but just slightly too small--the tapered end will slip into the hole to a point, but the gets stuck...)
Has anyone else had this problem?
I contacted CI, and they were less than helpful in trying to resolve the matter...I guess at this point, I need to find a machine shop to drill the hole out (VERY) slightly...
Any other suggesitons?
Additionally, I am no longer a fan of CI, and plan to use other vendors for my needs...
Mike68RS Jul 11th, 09, 04:32 PM Keith, why don't you just use a rat-tail file. If it's really that close it won't be that much work.
Mike
keithl1967 Jul 11th, 09, 07:00 PM Actually--I've never heard of a rat tail file...I'll see if I can get one tomorrow...
Melrose RS Jul 11th, 09, 07:49 PM I just had the same exact problem with a new pedal set. I used a dremel with a grinding stone to open the hole up a little. That's all it took.
And for what it's worth, I bought mine through Rick's.
67CamaroRS/SS Jul 12th, 09, 09:22 AM What transmission are you installing? Is this a Muncie or and aftermarket tranny(TKO or T56)?
keithl1967 Jul 12th, 09, 12:20 PM It is a muncie I am installing...Currently has a TH400....
TJS69 Jul 12th, 09, 01:11 PM You could just re-drill the hole yourself. The hole is already drilled so it won't be hard to do. You are experiencing one of the problems of reproduction parts. Close, but it is not right.
keithl1967 Jul 12th, 09, 04:06 PM I used the dremel and a grind stone...worked like a charm!! The pedals are hing...now to get the rubber stop for the clutch pedal...
Thanks to everyone that gave ideas...
I guess all the years I've had the car, I was fortunate enough to not run into the repro parts problem before this one!
Also, any "issues" I shoudl be aware of as I continue ont he swap? Next xtep is to tap the holes for th eframseide bracket, and hope that it holds when install the bracket (my holes are not "pre-tapped" as many have suggested they are...
keithl1967 Jul 12th, 09, 08:34 PM another question--there are two holes in the clutch pedal--to ehich one is the pushrod used?
KAWSAM62 Jul 13th, 09, 12:09 PM on my 67, I,was told the lower hole

RickD Jul 13th, 09, 12:11 PM Upper hole for manual brakes, lower for power.

On the clutch pedal?
RickD Jul 14th, 09, 05:23 AM I should read more closely! On my original 68 clutch pedal there's only one hole. However I remember reading about changes from 67 to 68 to make clutch useage more friendly if you will for the driver. That is, less foot pressure. If my memory is working that would suggest the lower hole for more leverage(?)

The lower hole is for power brakes because the geometry is different from a manual system.
keithl1967 Jul 14th, 09, 05:26 PM Rick D-thanks--that does make sense...
Scott--the question was not regarding whihc hole to use for the brakes, but trather, whihc hol on the clutch pedal to use...
Aaron67 Jul 14th, 09, 05:47 PM if you have two holes on the clutch pedal, the upper one (closes to the pedal's pivot point) will give you a lower pedal pressure, but you also won't be pushing as far on the clutch fork, so you might have to run a little less freeplay than normal to get full clutch disengagement. i don't remember this problem but i'll check tonight. i've got the repro pedals, too.
Aaron67 Jul 15th, 09, 08:56 AM I only saw one hole for the pushrod in my clutch pedal. the brake pedal does have two holes though. i've got the same repro pedals that you probably do.
