: Dye for seat belts
1969SSBB Jul 11th, 09, 03:34 PM Has anyone tried to dye their seatbelts? I have black in my 69 and after washing with soap and water and letting them dry, I am considering dyeing them. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Dan 69 LeMans Blue AC PB PS 454
KevinW Jul 11th, 09, 03:58 PM Rit dye with the salt solution works very well. But it will dye the labels and the rubber coating on the metal ends.
DjD Jul 11th, 09, 05:34 PM I had some dark blue belts that I tried to make black, no liquid dye, not even "Rit" would work. I found a rattle can cloth dye and it was amazing. I used the SEM vinyl prep on the belts first then hung them and dusted them over and over, it soaked in a lot but the color stuck and the belts stayed soft and ply-able...
Dale8346 Jul 11th, 09, 08:20 PM Dennis,
Do you think you would every be able to remove it if you wanted in the future without soaking in paint thinner?
My fear in doing that is that I make them better now, but worse in the future. I'm curious on your thoughts. THANKS in advance!

No, think about dying a shirt or other cloth, that's really what seat belt webing is like.
RS3SDL2MG Jul 12th, 09, 08:43 PM the very best way to restore seatbelt's is to use the rattle can paint/dye it work's terrific , I did mine and the first time they were to light so I put them out in the sun and put on a second coat THAT WAS THE TICKET ,
mine were done last year and at car shows and cruz in a lot of people have comented on how nice the seatbelt webbing color is ,,,
