The 1969 assembly instruction manual shows the brake hold-off valve (the brass valve mounted on the subframe) positioned in the two holes closest to the end of the subframe. (page L48, B3)
Subframes have a second pair of holes about three inches closer to the front of the car, and I sometimes see the hold-off valve installed in that location instead.
Were some valves on 1969 Z/28's factory-installed in the pair of holes closer to the front of the car, or were those valves positioned incorrectly during a restoration?

Thanks for the link, Scott. That's very helpful.
I can't see the photos there, but placing the center of the valve about six inches away from the trailing edge of the subframe positions it in the pair of holes that are closest to the end. That's what I see in the assembly instruction manual too.

Jeff, I think Z's were the same as mine. Here's a shot after installation of line lock last year. Original until the line lock modification. Hope it helps.
