I have a 69 convertible with the original 350 and QJet. I was wondering what benefits I would get by swapping the original QJet for a Holley TBI. My engine only puts out a little over 300HP, so it's a very mild engine. I was thinking that the TBI would help my engine run more efficiently, but is it worth the cost?

The q-jet is one of the most efficient carbs out there. There may be a slight increase in driveability with fuel injection. With the rpm range that you car operates in I doubt that TBI would net you very much. It would complicate a simple system a great deal. Considered An OD trans swap? If I had the money that is the direction I would go!

OK....I just swapped in a 2004R and a 3.73 posi. I just was wondering if a TBI would add any benefits.

How funny!.... My opinion is that tbi systems are much more efficient at lower rpms. That is the reason I made my 1st suggestion. I believe you would see better driveability during warm up and easier starting with TBI. But.. I have a lot of respect for the q-jet You may see a slight increase I would be reluctant to say you would see a significant increase. I would sooner invest my money elsewhere. It is sooo subjective. It would be really cool if you added a remote start to the tbi!!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

I don't really have anything(major) left to spend money on...I think I'm pretty much done with the car. I really like the overdrive!! Out here in Arizona I don't have any problems with startup.....I disconnected my choke and it starts and runs perfectly! I guess it's kind of like the old "the grass is always greener" thing with these old cars....once you start messing with them there's always something else you could do.

I ran the old 2bbl Holley Projection on a built 355 for a while. The car was my only transportation and since I was in the service I drove it across the country. Driveability was excellent compared to any carb I had tried and I really liked the cold engine operations. The down side was that the set up ran out of steam over 5500 RPM - there was nothing I could do to make it run right over 5500, below that though and it ran perfect. My combo ran about 350 HP back then.
I managed to get the combo to run a best of 13.3 at 104 mph on 225-60 street tires. This was with 2.2 sec 60 foot times in a heavy 84 Z28 with a 5 speed and 3.23 gears. Fun car.
If I were to do it all again, I would have got the 4bbl version, or better yet a closed loop TPI system if I had the bucks.

I know a guy that has a Holley TBI unit on his 'huntin truck'. He told me "the damn thing is always too rich and nobody can get it adjusted". I bet somebody can adjust it better - its just ones and zeros. How hard could it be? http://www.camaros.net/forum/tongue.gif Probably behaves about like a well tuned Q-jet from what I'm hearing. I tend to like tweaky stuff, but it's awful expensive.

Check the stock rpm use range for the setup you are contemplating getting b/c I gotta feeling that like already said, the sucker if a stock one will run out of breath way before a Q-Jet will!!
And I use ta wind my stock, 350 Q-Jet above 600o easy and same carb. on my junk 301 to 7000+ many, many times!!! pdq67
