Are there any stampings or casting numbers on the back of original or NOS Z28 Grille Emblems for 1969?

Are there any stampings or casting numbers on the back of original or NOS Z28 Grille Emblems for 1969?

I have an original GM one (I know its orig. because a good friend of mine worked at the parts counter back in the day and hand delivered the Emblems to me in GM boxes...which i no longer have) but, no part # stamped on the back...the rear and side one's do:confused: These were purchased in 1990 from GM.

I have an origional g. emblem also with no #'s. I also had an NOS g. emblem purchased from my local Chevy dealer in the 80's with no #'s either. I have side and rear ones with #'s.

Sounds like somewhere along the way - GM decided to start stamping the replacement parts??? Just a thought.

The grill emblem is an anomoly and I stopped researching it. The side and rear have consistently had #'s. I've had people NOT buy them because there were no #'s although they were GM origionals. Perhaps you will get your answer at CRG, I see you posted there as well.

Here's the issue -

I have an original grille emblem and an NOS grille emblem. Neither have any type of stamping on the back.

There's a guy on eBay who has a grille emblem listed as NOS that has the original part number stamped on the back. What's make me even more suspect is that he says it came to him in a GM box but the GM logo had been cut off.

Thoughts?

I saw it. He words his listing to cover it's authenticity. It may be but without an in hand inspection it would be tough. Notice that the speednuts do not have the sealant/dum dum on them; they are supposed to. These emblems do not have as many casting flaws other emblems are known for. Ask him if the 28 is white or silver.

If I remember correctly...the Box had the part # on it but nothing behind the Emblem and I would be suspect of the person advertising this part.

i have a nos z28 grill emblem and it too has no #'s on the back. i also purchased a trim parts grill emblem and it has the numbers on the back. as far as dum-dum sealant, my nos one dont have it and its in the sealed gm bag. i think they used dum-dum when it went into sheetmetal to keep the water out.

From what I've learned OTC parts were not always the same as factory. Perhaps this pertains to the plain speednuts. It would seem unlikely sealant would be applied manually to each emblem nut on the assembly line. My data research on Z grille emblems ended last year.

I have a NOS 69 Z grill emblem with no part number but it also has no black outside edge paint, is this correct, the nuts have the dum dum but it is chrome all the way around, thoughts Joe

Same, but with the black and no #s. I have a nice origional one with no #s either. OTC replacements. Always a debate when trying to sell something no matter what it is. Factory products differ from their replacements sometimes. I know it was a factory replacement because my friend bought all his parts from the local Chevy dealer 30 years ago.

Mine is the original, hasn't been touched since the day it was installed 40 years ago, and is painted flat black all around the edges. It wouldn't be unusual for later GM service replacements made after the car went out of production to differ slightly in appearance due to supplier capabilities, tooling, and processes. Those parts are more accurately described as "NORS" (New Old Replacement Stock), not NOS, which describes the production-line part. 99% of the parts on eBay described as NOS are actually NORS.
