: Need help plss. problem with my 95 camaro v6
Camaro95v6 Jul 13th, 09, 08:27 PM Need help, i have an issue with my 95 camaro. it has a 3.4l V6. whenever i try to start it, it wont start unless i spray starter fluid in it and crank it. But its idleing at 3grand and will slowly rise. i dont know whats the cause of it all. Any help i could get would be greatly appreciated.
Everett#2390 Jul 14th, 09, 03:16 AM Reads like the IAC (idle air control) is broken, or has no control from the PCM, or a big intake leak.
Welcome, Michael, to the Club.
usa1 Jul 14th, 09, 03:47 AM Sounds like you'll need to get it scanned.Probably a sensor gone bad. Most mechanics will have a scanner, some may not even charge you.Call your local parts store, they may be able to point you in the right direction or they may even be able to scan it.
SPARKY69 Jul 14th, 09, 03:58 AM welcome to team camaro!! everett is on the right track, can you get the car scanned for codes??
Camaro95v6 Jul 14th, 09, 04:58 AM Thks. i asked my buddy if he had a scanner i could use and he said one of the people he knows might so im waiting to hear back from him. i cant get the camaro up to anyplace to do it cause i cant get her to start without starter fluid and since she runs at 3grand and keeps increasing slowly without any help from the gas pedal.
Camaro95v6 Jul 14th, 09, 05:14 AM wheres the idle air control located on the engine.
Camaro95v6 Jul 14th, 09, 11:45 AM nvm i found it. right there in plain sight, if it was a snake it would have bit me. how would i be able to tell if its broken if i dont have a scanner.
Steiner Jul 14th, 09, 06:00 PM You have to get the specs for it. There is a specific ohmic value to look for between the connector pins. There is also a specific distance that the pintle should be from the base. The pintle moving forward and backward is what sets your idle air mix. A vacuum leak big enough to throw your idle up to 3k should at least throw a "check gas cap" code so that probably isn't the problem.
With it being a '95 and OBD-1, a scan won't find a whole lot especially if there is no code being set and a bad IAC valve usually will not throw one.
The best thing to do is get a new one from a store with a good return policy but keep you old one. BE AWARE that the price is probably going to shock you. Disconnect the battery and install the new one. Reconnect the battery, turn the key on but don't start the car for thirty seconds, then turn the car off for thirty seconds, then start it and take it for a ten minute drive of stopping/starting. If it doesn't fix it, put your old one back in and get a refund for the new one.
Sometimes you can spray them down with a can of brake cleaner or intake cleaner and the pintle will free up. Just don't soak it as stuff can get into the sealed places and destroy the electronics.
BillK Jul 14th, 09, 06:27 PM Michael,
First of all, throw the starting fluid in the trash can or you will have more problems than you want to think about :(
Now, It sounds like a vacuum leak, but could be almost anything. A scanner might help but only if you know what youare looking at/for. If the Check Engine Light or MIL is not on, then there will be no codes to look at.
You might not want to hear this, but it will probably cost you less in the long run to just find a good shop and have them find the problem for you. Even if you just pay them to diagnose it, then fix it yourself if you want, you will probably be ahead of the game. Or ... you can throw $100 parts at it until you maybe get lucky and find the right one :(
Camaro95v6 Jul 14th, 09, 06:30 PM thks for the help. ill get right on that.
Camaro95v6 Jul 14th, 09, 06:33 PM Does anyone have an engine diagram that i could look at and get a rough idea where everything is so i dont have to keep asking where different things are in the long run, if not its cool.

Hit up O'Reilly's, AutoZone, or whatever and grab the Haynes or Chiltons manual for your car. It should only be about $20 or so and is an invaluable tool if you're going to tackle more stuff on your own.
