After wire wheeling the parking brake cable wound sleeve (Where it comes through the firewall and down the left frame rail) It almost looks like stainless but I know it cant be! Has anyone fond a way to keep this shine after cleaning without it corroding or rust. I like the shine it has and dont want to paint it.

I wire wheeled my drill press support post years ago when it began to build up surface rust. After wheeling, I applied a coat of Johnson's paste wax and to this day no rust.

I think you have wire-wheeled the zinc plating off. Replate or paint. It's bare metal now!

I knew I wire wheeled a coating off as they never look as good as that from the factory. I would like to clear it, just need to find a clear with flexibility to help not crack if it moves.

Its frustrating to get an old hard to find bolt shiny with a wire wheel only to have bad corrosion protection.
