I would like to know what 67 camaro in pieces is worth. My parents went into some financial trouble last year and sold the car that has been sitting in their garage waiting to be restored since about 1970. Course their pride kept them for telling me for 6 months. I found the guy who has the car and he bought it thinking he was going to restore it but just garaged it. Anways he wants 10k (same price he bought it from my dad) for the car. I don't know much about cars to be honest but I am looking to see if someone might be able to give me a ballpark figure of what I'm looking at to put this thing together. Numbers don't match. Body had some modifications as my dad made it a street racer for the couple years he had it on the road. The body is in great shape except for the floorpanels, the center dash where he put some guages, and on the rear end where the gas cap is. Engine, tranny and most parts are there. The dollar is not my biggest concern but I'd like to know that if I put this together it would be worth at least close to what I put in it. The most important thing is that I can make this thing look good and give me and my dad something to well...any help would be appreciated

Hi Jim,

If what your saying is all thats required for replacement or repair of the body and you have most of the tools and know how to use them and the time to do this, at 10000.00 to buy it back I think you will be hard pressed complete this car for what it would return at sale unless there are some hidden variables. The tag would help with figuring out that part but even then you said its not number matching and that would hurt the bottom line. You should probably check out some of the ongoing threads about how these things have a way of snowballing into a lot more of a project than when they were started just so you go into this fully prepared for what may follow.

What you said in your last line I think is way more important than what the car will return if you sell it off. If your really thinking of a dad and I project this would definitely qualify and following this road should give you and your dad a lot of time together and hopefully a lot of great memories and pride in what you accomplished along the way, it's exactly why I went out and bought one of these cars for my son and myself. I already know theres next to no hope of me recovering what I'll have into it when done but that was never the point, in reality I do not ever plan on selling it, when the times right it will get handed down to my son and hopefully somewhere way down the road his own son in turn.

A little more information would be helpful to give you an idea on what the car is worth or will be worth. Was it originally an RS, SS, RS/SS, Big Block, Small Block, Automatic, 4 speed?? A number of things go into determing its value when finished. Even the original color can make a difference in some situations. As Kevin said, because its a 67 all this info can be gathered from the trim tag...post a pic of it if you can.

If your buying it back just to fix up, flip and turn a profit its going to be next to impossible at that price in this market. However, if your buying it back to fix up and keep because its been in the family for 40 years then go for it..i can think of no better reason to buy it back...but thats just me. :)

If it was taken apart and garaged in 1970 ( 3 years old ) then why is it not numbers matching ?

If it was in a garage what happened to the floorpans ?

I guess you could take the car out of the equation and just think of it as collateral for a loan that you repaid. Then it is a matter of whether you could afford to loan your parents $10K. I'm sure they spent a lot more than that on you. LOL. I'm sure it was a tough decision for your dad and it would be an amazing gift to restore it for him or work with him on it.

Take a picture of the cowl tag on the firewall of the engine bay and we can help you decode it.
