Hello,

I have a 1967 RS Camaro frame off in 2004.Headlight doors have been working perfect since 2004. I disconnected the battery today to install a stereo. When I reconnected the negative battery cable I could hear the headlight relays clicking. I started the car and pulled the headlight switch. The doors opened but now that won't close when the switch is turned off. Any ideas?

Did you turn the key on when attempting to shut the doors? As I recall, they will open without the key,but need the key in the on position to supply power for closing. Just a thought. If this does not solve the issue,check the fuse (the silver box with two threaded posts), or the relays themselves.

I'll check the fuses and the relays.

Also check the diode under the dash. My doors opened but did not close when I got my 67. I went thru all of the wiring diagrams and troubleshooting. Finally found the diode under the dash by the ignition was bad. Here is a link to help http://www.gvtc.com/~rlaa/. You can get the diodes at Radioshack. There is a thread somewhere here in the forums with the part #.

Thanks for the heads up. I think it is the diode as I already replaced all 3 relays and they still won't close.

Brian- assuming your car is an original RS with correct wiring- On the interior side of the firewall near the brake pedal you should find a blue and brown wire that run together as a pair through the firewall. You can disconnect them right there.
The diode is on the brown wire but way up in the dash. With a test light or meter you should see 12V on the brown when your key is "ON" and nothing when your key is off. If you have this, your diode is probably OK. Good luck.

Hey everyone got it fixed. It was hard to determine because I had power at the brown wire when the key was on but only if you moved the wiring where the diode was located. The problem was a bad wire connection on one side of the diode. I replaced the diode and the lights close fine. Thanks for all of the information.
