Hi,

New to this forum (coming over from one of the other forums out there). Looking for some advice on a purchase of a 396 / 375.

Any thoughts on the fair market value of a 69 L-78, M22, x-66 code. It has the born with motor, including water pump, correct carb, distributor, serial # on cowl, cortez silver.

I believe it has the original M22 and rear end - but in the process of confirming.

The only documentation for the car is that it has GM Canada paperwork.

Any ball park thoughts? $40K, $55K, $60K?

Thank you!

Paul

welcome to team camaro paul!!!!!! sounds like a very nice car..i take it you know all the ins and outs of knowing if it is a real x66 L-78 car?? if it is real and all is legit and it has the born with drivetrain and the numbers match and they are not restamps and the car is not rebodied...40k on up depending on quality of the restore and what original sheetmetal is still on the car!! what exactly does the owner have for paperwork?? buildsheet, pop, owners info(history of)....not sure what gm canada paperwork means?? what is included in all that?

Real L78's do not come around often, and there are tons of fakes out there. IF the driveline is #'s matching, "Born With" and it is rust free, then i'd say at least 50k.

Canada Docs help some.

Pics sure would help though.

"Canadian Docs" have been compromised.

When they began to provide build info on cars shipped there over 20 years ago they just sent you a copy of the page your car was listed on along with 15-20 others. The pages became a commodity and soon were being traded. Probably some people have all the pages. Cars have been re-created based on the info on those sheets.

So take Canadian Docs with a grain of salt. Get the car checked out.

$45K sounds good but make sure it will not require another $20K restoration. I would incourage you to observe the Camaro in person or send someone to inspect it. You would be better off to lose $500 than lose $$$$. Sounds like a keeper but do your homework. Good Luck

William makes the key point on Canadian docs....

A real 396/375 with a M22 in cortex silver ? Can you really buy one of those for 45-50K ? If the car is solid and in good condition and the docs check out I would think that would be a pretty good buy for that kind of money .

You know the old sayin... this thread is worthless without pictures :)

My friend sold his L-78 last year. A real one. Build sheet, Rust free origional metal. Non matching barely streetable motor, origional tranny and rear, Hugger O., Comfortweave, Console, guages. New paint, flawless trim, Never butchered, Needed a headliner and a few minor odds and ends. Never saw the road in 25 years. Had too many cars. $47K

Thank you for the replys. Will see what I can find out from the current owner. Should be interesting! Pictures should be on the way from the seller to here this week.
