its best to remove the windshield, and weld in new metal to patch it up..

I had to change the roof skin on mine to get ride of all the rust in the window channels.

You need to remove the windshield to repair that and all the other damage that is lurking under the old, rotting windshield sealant.

I'd replace the roof skin. If you patch it with that much rust, its just going to come back later with a vengeance.

thats why ya cut the rust out. buy a sheet of metal and put a body dolly in your bench vice use a rubber mallet and make the curve. mig weld it little by little to keep it cool enough to not warp the rest of the roof.

you could buy another roof skin for $300 if you roof is covered is rust. but if your patient and have lots of time, you could make your own patch panel from raw sheet metal costing $5. its up to you. You patch it my way and don't like it, you could always just cut the whole roof off including the patch and have fun putting in that whole roof.. either way, yes you must pull out the windshield. this allows you to find all the weak metal under the glass and keep you from damaging the window while doing the repairs

you know its gonna be rusted in the windshield channel though most likely if its that bad, i finally got around to cleaning out the rest of the rubber crap in my rear window today at the bottom and for both the windshield and rear window tops being rotted bad, the bottom by the decklid filler is only rusted 2inches in from the drivers side. but both tops were gone = P
