Great pics. What pcv system will you be using or did I miss the holes in those new valve covers? I too am using those and had the powder coated in clear. Also, I guess the K2 springs gave you a rate that was better matched to the hyd cam? Nice accomplishment, Jeff.

Looking good Jeff! That is going to be a fun ride. :D Did you ever figure out exactly what the problem was with the previous build?

Hi John,

The previous build was just bad and I am being polite. The crank was not balanced properly. My engine builder said that there were no holes drilled in it. Even thro the motor was fairly fresh I was forced to go to .40 over on the bore because the cylinders had to much clearance for .30 over even if I went to forged pistons.
It was an example of a $2200 engine on EBAY. It looked good, the write up was good, I was in a hurry to get the car running and I learned a lesson. I salvaged the block and the cam so it was not a total loss. Finally, to add insurt to missery the brand new Centerforce cluth was out of balance. graemlins/clonk.gif

Jeff,
the bum engine from e-bay wouldn't happen to be from a state with the abreviation Va. and a town with the initals SD? I've been considering buying a long block from that cat and looked at his history and boy , it looks clean. How do they do that??

69pace, if I might offer my 2cents, you might try golensengineservice.com (Golens Engine Service) in Mass. They built mine, and my sons motor, both sbc's, and both run great and really perform. We each have over 2k miles on them. Talk to Chad.

Let me know what you think..

Good luck!

Lookin Good Jeff graemlins/thumbsup.gif Question. Not to be nit-picky, What crankshaft and camshaft are you using? and are you also using any kind of windage tray assy? I didn't see any info on your web site.

69Pace,

Yes, Jeff did get his engine from the place you are describing...

I too bought an engine from this builder, although I didn't buy one of the builds off of Ebay. I lived about an hour away (we just moved, now it is about 2 hours) and went and met the guys in person and told them what I wanted. Two weeks later it was built and at a very good price. So far no problems, but when I first heard that Jeff was having problems with his 383 I was concerned. I've got about 1500 miles on my engine now and it runs great although I'm still having a carb issue (lean stumble) that I need to spend more time working on... I've been lazy.

Check out my engine on the page in my sig.
