Exactly, call your local locksmith. A good one can come out and make you a key right there just by using a pick to feel where the tumblers are.

Did this car originally come from Canada?

you could also take the lock out of the column and get the numbers off that and get a key cut or take the lock to a lock shop and have them cut a key to match the numbers on the tumbler

you have to take the steering wheel off and do some more work, but if you are not handy with tools then call a locksmith and have him come out, it will be cheaper than if you break something trying to get the tumbler out

for 2nd gen info this site is the best:

if this is a Canadian sold car originally just take proof of ownership to your local GM dealer parts dept, they can get Canadian key codes back to 1945.

Thus my question in the above reply (#4) ;)
Wish they had that service in the US
It is available for newer GM cars here now - they have a key registration by VIN back to the late 90's or early 00's if IIRC.

If its anything like the way the 69 camaros keys are.. the door locks are the same as the ignition.. I pulled my door lock out.. its easier to remove and took it to a key maker and they used the number on it and cut one.. it works on both doors and the ignition.

x2, make note of that lock number and make extra key.
