: My '69 is sitting funny...

I've noticed that my car is sitting lower in the left rear and can't figure out why. There is more of a space between the top of the tire and the wheel well lip on the passenger side than on the driver side, and the car looks clearly to be leaning to the left from behind.

I've checked to see if maybe it was a leaking air shock, but it has standard gas shocks so that's not it. The shocks look old, but they compress OK and only bounce once when the back end of the car is pushed down.

The mono-leafs appear OK and the mounting points are solid and not rusted out.

Any ideas on what else to look at or look for? Could it be a de-arched spring on that side? Or maybe I'm looking at the wrong side -- perhaps there's a problem on the right side?

:(

could be worn leaf springs..you have to buy them in pairs..shocks wont fix it unless you have air shocks and one is blown..

Camaro's are prone to this. There can be many causes, weakened springs front and/or rear, binding bushings, front springs not seated correctly in pockets, subframe bushings worn. Check everything related to suspension.

make sure all bushings are good and nothing is rusted where springs and shocks bolt too!!

+1 on what Kevin said. I had the same thing. I changed the front coils for Z/28 ones and had the installer follow the directions in the Assembly manual. We found that the spring on the passenger side was situated differently than the driver side and cause the passenger side to be higher in the front and that put the rear down on the drivers side.
Measure your wheel well height from the ground on the front corners. If they are off this will be the answer. If not you need to look at the rear springs. I also had poly bushings added to the rear springs but that was before the front coils were changed.
She is exactly the same from bumper to ground on both sides now.

Took some measurements over the weekend -- these are all from the garage floor to the bottom of the wheel opening lip:

LF 26 1/4" RF 27 3/8"

LR 25 3/8" RR 27 1/8"

The right front is definitely sitting up, so that may be causing the left rear to sit low.

Gotta do more poking around....

This was the problem with mine. I will send along the pic from the manual that I used to fix the problem. The seating of the spring is the issue.

I changed the springs to a set of Z/28 coils and had the installer follow this diagram. It turned out perfect. I had a spring shop compress and band them and it made the install a piece of cake. My measuements were about the same about and inch and a quarter higher on the fromt right.

Thanks, Brian -- I'll give it a go!

Bad sub-frame bushings can cause this too.
