Long story short, I met a guy last night who is a friend of my brothers he's a big muscle car guy and has a beautiflu 67 chevelle SS 396 car that he broght over. He came by to look at my 69. He goes on to say that he has a
68 Z/28 in his shop that has been there in it's current state for over 10 years. Currently the car is disassembled; meaning the front fenders are removed, the motor and tranny are out of the car the interior is out of the car. The car's sub frame is still intact. Here's his story. It's his brothers car, brother had no place to do the restoration so he let him use his shop. Well the brother over the last 10 years has lost interest or according to the guy his brother really never had the ability to tackle the project and is now admitting it and is giving up. So here is what I know about the car; it is not a RS, it has the original 302 motor very complete but needing a rebuild. It has it's original tranny also needing a rebuild. the original 3:73 rear end is under the car but will also need rebuilt. The brother bought NOS front fenders for the car years ago. It will need quarters, not sure of the trunk or floors, but the guy said they are in pretty good shape. The glass is all there and not broken. Unsure of the interior condition but assume it will need new everything, but the core parts are there i.e seats column, steering wheel etc. The best part the brother has the original build sheet, the POP and other papers all proving it is the real deal.

I am unable to go look at the car this weekend but will go early next week. I will take lots of pictures and post.

Here's the rub according to the guy there is another intersted party, and may look at it this weekend. There is no way I can get there before Monday. I am not even sure I want to take on another project right now as well. I am just finishing up on a 2 year restoe of my current 69.

Anyway with the rough details I gave WIW, I would like to have a rough idea so when I start talking to the guy I know where I stand

I remember an old saying in bargaining, "The first person that names the price loses"

That said, the best way to figure it out I suppose is to determine what a restored 68-Z will go for, figure out your restoration costs, and see if you come out ahead. It sounds like it's quite a significant project, and one that could easily cost more than its value if you had to outsource the labor. It sounds like the entire thing needs to be redone from scratch and I see the parts bills adding up fast! Still a worthwhile extremely cool car though...good luck!

Hopefully you get to see it and inquire about what he'd be looking to get for it. Based on his answer, you can determine the best course of action.
