Took the truck over to local Dragway in Tulsa last night. Track was slippery!
Installed the new Torco 3500 stall in hoping to get this big truck off the line better, but now am blowing the tires off!
Tires are 28x11.50 ET Streets...
Here are some of the times:
best:
R/T .540
60' 2.00
330 5.51
1/8 8.49
1000 11.07
1/4 13.33
MPH 99.14

ran a couple 13.40's and 13.50's...
I used to have great 60's with a 1.84 and 13.21 ET at best.
Now, my 60's were
2.21,2.16,2.03,1.94,2.00,2.15's...etc...

amd I concentrating too much on 60's...it's a truck, so it doesn't MPH well...mostly in the 98 MPH range.

thoughts?

Not sure what you ran before, but if I recall it was very low 13's.

How are you staging and launching? Burnout procedure? Air pressure? Maybe it is just a slick track like you said. Lack of track prep and rubber build up can make a track worse than ordinary dry pavement.

If it helps, I found that my Hoosiers like 14psi and a big burnout. I stage the car about 2000-2500 RPM --- just until the suspension starts to load and the back end just starts to lift. Hammer down at the last yellow and it flashes to about 3500.

The hot, nasty air we have here now isn't going to help any. Pretty cool though that you can blow a set of 28x11.50's away though  Not many trucks can do that. I bet the track was greasy too...they have been running a lot of street car/import races out there lately, so probably a lot of radial snot left on the track.

And btw, if all goes according to plan (like it ever does  ), I should be dropping in the new motor late next week. We need to hook up around the 1st of september if the temps get back down into the "non sahara" range...I got to get this thing to the track before the seasons over.

Travis...yea, sounds like fun!

Eric/ Travis...I had 13 psi on the tires, and warmed them up pretty good. But no matter what i tried, I couldn't get it to stick.
before, it was a 13.21 with a 1.84 60'. Now, I moved the gas tank to the rear, right before the back bumper thinking that would help weight transfer, as well as adding the bigger stall on launching.
But all the ay through first it was spinning pretty hard.....and yea, it was hot yesterday/last night...so i know the air didn't help.

I think the track needed some TLC...no prior track prep may have hurt me even more.
But was still disappointed not to get that magical 12.99.... :(

Looks like more tune time.

travis, yes, I leave tomorrow morning to head to Austin for Heatwave show, but will be back the 22nd...first of September sounds good. Let me know!

Spin a few turns in the water box, slight out and heat up, smoke them then roll out burning past front tires.
Tires had 13 psi, and launched about 2200, and it flashes up to 3500 at release.Hammer at last yellow...R/T's are .587/.627/.540/.548/.695

Just a thought, but since your truck is heavier maybe your tires would like more pressure. I was talking with some of the guys at the Chevelle site a while back and they seemed to like more pressure than my 14 psi. Some were running 17 psi with exactly the same tire I use.

Forgot about the heat down there . . . that sure won't help.

ps. and Travis - you are FINALLY going to get that motor together ??? sweet !!! let me know how it runs.

Tracy..How much does that truck weigh?
As mentioned already the hot air doesn`t help.
I`d venture to say your previous best was in cooler weather.
Take two tenths off for cool air that would make it 13.10`s then get traction to at least where it was... there`s 12.80`s 12.90`s right there!!.

You`ll need to wait till it cools down some to see a new best probably but the 60 fts can still be improved until then.

I have to wonder why your MPH isn`t higher though :(
That motor has all good parts. Something isn`t right, not being harsh, just thinking maybe the cam is too big.

My good friends 89 full size 383' truck for example ran 13.0`s @ 108 MPH and he had a 2.73 peg leg in it.
Maybe you can advance the cam some and see what happens.

If you can get that truck to run as good as it looks you`ll need to get your NHRA license :D

Eric, I started with 15psi, adn that's when I did the 2.21 60'ft...so I will just need more time I guess to play.

The time it did run the 13.21, it was like 60 degrees outside, and pretty coll wind. Yesterday, with the heat index it was like 110 or 112º...

yea, I was wondering if maybe the cam isn't too big, as it was only crossong the line at 5000 RPM's as well...

Bigred..see, peg leg, smaller motor, I should see 12.90's shouldn't I with cooler weather?
I'll do whatever it takes...i want 12.90's on motor alone...

OH, and with me, it's 4120 lbs.

thanks all for the feedback and the kind words Bigred!

Ya know I've seen 3/10ths diff between perfect air and miserably hot/humid air just this summer so don't sweat it . . . I bet when it cools off and they decide to prep the track you'll easily hit high 12's.

How much stall in your old convertor? If it was less than you have gotten into the torque range of the motor with the new convertor and the result is a real traction problem.

my car varies 2 tenths from cool to heat and at a 100 degrees thats a good 2 tenths ,also it sounds like the track sucks.go on race night and try it you should see at least a tenth quicker time there. my opinion on the cam is that its perfect for a steet and strip car or truck with your combination.set the timing at 38 degrees at 3000 rpms and try it if you havent already

the old stall was 3000...didn't bog, but figured the 3500 did move it into the torque range, hence no traction now... :(

Need to work on getting it to hook, but your right...need track prepped bad as well.

Thanks all!
