: resizing jpegs
Sauron67MM Jul 25th, 09, 09:44 AM Old computer died. Have a new one. Custom built. Intel/4G RAM. Was using the instructions in the posted link to reduce jpegs with no problems. Now it gets as far as "make my pictures smaller" and file goes to "My Documents" and is not reduced. "Save attachments" never comes up on screen. Prefer over Photobucket because I can avoid the step and keep it all in my system. I do not possess extensive computer diagnostic skills. If more data is needed I will gladly provide it. http://www.ehow.com/how_2128222_jpeg-files-using-windows-xp.html
Was able to go through entire procdure before with no difficulty. Any thoughts on resolutions?
insomniac2k1 Jul 25th, 09, 11:10 AM A quick and dirty way to do it is right click and choose "send to email recipient". The next option that comes up is "do you want to resize..blah blah..". After your email client opens itself up with the attackment/s, you can highlight and copy them out of there to wherever you want.
There are easier and other ways, but this one has always been my lazy approach at it..

That is exactly the way I was doing it, just like in the link I posted. My Hotmail account just ended my file size limits and wants me to purchase more. And I can no longer pull multiple pics from my files. Could this be the source of my problem? There should be no reason to outsource photo editing and storage when I have plenty. Photobucket and others are a marketing ploy. I have more storage than I will ever use. Thanks, Scott
dyno jonn Jul 25th, 09, 01:04 PM Why can't you just send the resized pictures to yourself? http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/4.gif
Steptoe Jul 25th, 09, 03:11 PM Windows paint is missing some parameters
Down load infran pic editor
Crop the background out, so the subject is larger
Resize longest size to about 500/600
Save as jpg and opition link comes up choose about 25%
Takes a pic of several meg down to 20 to 50 k

That's what I want to know. That is exactly what I was doing prior to getting this new computer. I understand that this type of on-screen diagnosis is not easy to convey or understand. While there are other ways to resize there HAS to be a reason I cannot do it as I did 2 days ago in the link I posted.
Now what happens is:
I send it to mail recipient, I choose "make my pictures smaller", then it goes to a "choose profile" box in which is a profile name and 4 other command boxes. The latter never happened before. None of the previous commands come up on the screen, including "save attachments."
As stated my knowledge is limited in the computer field and admittedly there is much to learn.
insomniac2k1 Jul 25th, 09, 06:50 PM It's because your default email editor is set to outlook express. You have not yet setup a profile for it, so it will pop up every time. You can either setup your email to use outlook express or open up internet explorer and go into your options and tell it to use hotmail or whatever you use as your email editor.
Sauron67MM Jul 25th, 09, 07:20 PM I'm on it. I'll see what I can do. Do not recall doing that with the old computer. I plan on taking a while to figure it out. Thanks Insomniac.------S.

I did it. It works. Don't understand yet what all the choices are when I got into it: POP, HTTP, and the others (I forgot). So I picked one and went for it.
I greatly appreciate the assistance. After listening to the engineer who built my new one I realized the complexities of these marvels of technological advancements will forever have me playing catch-up.
insomniac2k1 Jul 25th, 09, 11:40 PM glad it worked out for you!

Z15CAM Jul 27th, 09, 06:35 AM Type "Old Apps ACDSee" in Google Search. Down load and install this Photo Editor. It will solve your PIC problems. Finding Serials for Old Apps On Line isn't much of a Problem and really of no concern ;o)
clwilcox33 Jul 27th, 09, 08:15 AM acdsee was really designed as a cam viewer originally. I like infran viewer better as steptoe suggested.

Sauron67MM Jul 27th, 09, 09:27 AM I have not gotten into it yet but are the photo editing capabilities that came with my Canon Rebel xti SLR any good? Or are they inferior/slower than the suggested links? Scott
Steptoe Jul 27th, 09, 02:52 PM I generally use ADCee...I purchased an full copy yrs ago....but the infran does exactly the same thing for resizing and is open source..there are other open source progs that also resize just as well....infran is the most common I supose.
The aim is to get the pics so people can still see what the subject is about, but not have them so damn big a web page takes a month of sundays to bloody down load.
click Jul 27th, 09, 03:16 PM Ive used ACDsee for years as viewer, resizer, love it. But for bulk resizing Ive used this Pix Resizer (http://pixresizer.en.softonic.com/) its free too. It can resize all pics in a folder, fast and easy.
:)
Sauron67MM Jul 27th, 09, 05:45 PM I'll make a note of the sites suggested. For all the programs my camera came with there should be something on there also. I will look into all suggested when my servants free up some time for me. What is infran to which Steps is referring? thanks gents, Scott
Steptoe Jul 27th, 09, 11:44 PM Google it you will come up with the download and install.
Steiner Jul 28th, 09, 02:44 AM Right click file.
"Open With->" Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
Select "Edit Pictures" at top bar.
Select "Resize" on right hand bar.
Select "Percentage of original width x height".
Punch in percentage.
Hit OK to see new pic.
If you like it, either hit save to replace the old file or
"File" -> "Save As" to save as a new file and keep the old one.
If you don't like it, either hit "Edit"->"undo" or "discard changes" or CTRL + Z.
