I have a 69 ss350, what color should the metal area that is visible from the door panel around the rear window back to the opposite door panel( not sure what to call it) be painted. The car is garnett red with black vinyl interor. Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about the metal surrounding the package tray? If you're looking for what the color was from the factory...that metal is supposed to be painted a non-glaring almost matte paint that is the color of your interior. If your interior is black, the surrounding metal should be somewhere between semi-gloss and matte black.
Maybe somebody else can chime in if I'm not correct.

All of the metal interior pieces including rear sepeaker and rear defogger grilles were finished with the same "suede" finish used on the top of the dash.
