: Please help me choose wheels!
69RS/Z28 Jul 27th, 09, 10:10 AM I'm getting ready to make a purchase - want to order wheels and tires and I can't decide whether to go with Chrome or gray. I think they both will look good, but I have heard so many compliments of gray centers on blue cars. I'm down to Am Racing CL205's, Rocket Boosters, or Billet Street Lites on Nitto 555's. Please help me to decide; I hope you can see the attached pic. Thanks for your opinions!
insomniac2k1 Jul 27th, 09, 10:38 AM I hate suggesting other rims than what you are focusing on, but I love these so much I have to post them to make sure that these were considered yet :)

I will be putting my money where my mouth is on these :beers:
69RS/Z28 Jul 27th, 09, 10:41 AM Thank you; so I guess I can deduct that you're also of the opinion that chrome centers will look better than gray on a Glacier Blue paint? I will certainly consider these as well; hadn't seen them until you pointed them out...
insomniac2k1 Jul 27th, 09, 10:46 AM I'm a chrome fan. But then again, im a little conservative on rims and a few other things. I know that if I do straight chrome, i cant go wrong. I may not like the look of a colored rim, and it would cost me a bundle to replace them when i cant handle it anymore

I have a 67 that's Marina Blue and had planned for 3 years to go with chrome/polished wheels. But at the last second Voxx came out with their "Old School" model (in both polished and with gray spokes) and I just had to jump ship to go with the gray/polished look. I don't regret the decision for a second...just something for you to think about:

zlek131 Jul 27th, 09, 11:48 AM I went with chrome wheels (Foose Legends) and Nitto 555. The good comments just keep coming each time I drive the car...
Joe Harrison Jul 27th, 09, 12:27 PM I am going vintage 40's. These are Torque thrust with gray centers. My 40 will polished lips and grayish charcoal centers.

BigBlock1969RS Jul 27th, 09, 12:42 PM If you can I'd suggest you look at the wheels you are considering in person. It made a big difference for me. As what I was considering by pictures was completely different having seen the wheels in person. Local car shows or a big retailer might have what you are looking for and can see them in person.
On a blue car, I think grey centers on the rim give it a nice contrast along with chrome outer rim.

insomniac2k1 Jul 27th, 09, 12:51 PM Those wheels look sharp!

Stewie Jul 27th, 09, 01:00 PM I went with these: And this is the reason. I think it will look killer on that car.
BTW: Is it a real Z. I have always wondered what a Glacier blue Z would look like. I had a documented Canadian car but it was painted Black.

I like these newer Torque Thrust D's. I like chrome but chrome will rust, just let fido get around those wheels one Saturday morning. I like the minilites too but make sure you have clearance for disk brakes.
68bigblockSS Jul 27th, 09, 02:16 PM i just purchased the 17inch street lites...i should have them on the car tonight.... ill snag some pics if you would like.
69RS/Z28 Jul 27th, 09, 03:20 PM You guys are killin' me! I thought this was supposed to make my decision easier, not harder... lol. Just kidding; great feed-back and I really appreciate it, I think I just realized that I'm not as close to making a decision as I thought. I am, however leaning toward the Street Lites; I think they look awesome, lightweight, and from what I'm told of very good quality.
Brian; I'm 99% she's a real Z - everything I've looked into on the car has checked-out. I've been trying to post the Cowl Tag, but I'm afraid I'm much better under the hood of my car than behind a camera - I'm having difficulty getting the pictures small enough to post her. Running a 350 right now, that's what was in it when I bought it, but I have a 302 on order right now with an October build as I continue to search for her born with motor.
69RS/Z28 Jul 27th, 09, 03:20 PM 68BigBlock; thank you, I'd love to see them on your car. Please post!
69RS/Z28 Jul 27th, 09, 03:22 PM John; how do you post your picture like that? Mine is all blurry and makes my car look like crap???
edhjohnb Jul 27th, 09, 03:48 PM John; how do you post your picture like that? Mine is all blurry and makes my car look like crap???
Just post your pics on photobucket (you can create a free account if you don't have one), then select the picture(s) you want and copy them into your post. You can even use the "imbed" option, which includes the HTML commands at the beginning of the photo's link and at the end of the link. It's really easy once you do it.
1SLOW64 Jul 27th, 09, 03:52 PM No CHROME! Either polished uliminum or grey.
jabbo67 Jul 27th, 09, 05:34 PM I don't think you can go wrong with polished or gray centers, however choose the correct wheel size and offset. I bought TTII's without really researching size and offset. Now , if it is OK to ask edhjohnb a question, could I get the tire size, wheel size and offset of your front wheel/tire combo?
rj68RS Jul 27th, 09, 06:00 PM gee, I'm kinda partial to the grey centers on a blue car myself.

68bigblockSS Jul 27th, 09, 06:23 PM im sorry about the horrible pictures they were taken with my phone ill try to get better ones later and with the center caps on. try to visualize the car with paint as its an ongoing project.

See post #10 those are Vintage Wheel Works Wheels. They are a "polished" lip and painted center no chrome.
As for fido not much I can do about that but I have heard of products you can spray on or near areas you don't want dogs to lift at. Don't know if they work. I did find a nice product that keeps cats of the top of the car and other areas. Expensive but worth it. It's called a scat mat and it shocks em when they jump on it. Works like a charm and it powered by a 9 volt battery. A 24x48 mat is $80.00, cats don't like to get zapped on the feet!!

Joe: Post 10 was mine, and I wanted to point out that the centers on the Vintage Wheel Works are shot blasted, not painted. That was one of the reasons I decided on them, over the others with the painted centers.
Alligator Jul 28th, 09, 07:27 AM Joe I have a 68 Coupe and want VWW V40's with 15x8 4.5" backspace all around. I e-mailed Eli last year and he said they were working on it, but have not seen anything on their website yet.. I worry about the BS on the existing 15x8 working with P255 60R15

I talked to them also and they said it will be sometime next year for them if they do it. I talked to him about 255/60/15 on the 15x8 and Eli said it should be no problem for the fit on a 67-68.

Correct.....I miss spoke (typed) because I plan to paint mine.
Alligator Jul 29th, 09, 12:52 PM Joe, thanks for letting me know, the BS on the 15x8 is 3 7/8", I was worried it would stick out too much...I guess I will have to go with 15x7 on the front, no problem!
DriverzInc Jul 29th, 09, 03:02 PM I really like grey wheels with a polished lip on a blue car like yours. The polished wheel lips tie in the chrome bumpers, and polished trim pieces, but the grey centers tone down the look. Nothing against chrome, we sell a ton of the Foose Legend for guys that like chrome, but it were my own personal car, and I had a blue paint job, I'd go with either a brushed center, silver center, or a grey center with a polished lip.

Talked to them about that fit and the 235/60/15 BFG radial T/A and I was told by Vintage it should work with out issue on a 15x7 rim which is also 3 7/8 back space. This is what I plan to use. I have thought of going to 225/60/15 BFG just to be on the safe side since my 67 is going to be lower in the front. The picture above is a 15x7 on a 235/60/15 Torque thrust at all four corners.
rj68RS Jul 30th, 09, 10:26 AM I think with a 15x7 with 3 7/8 BS and a 235/60-15 you might have tight fit at full lock if the front is really low. I'm running Hotchkiss front springs and my 225's just clear with 4" BS and rolled inner fender lips just for the record.
I'm running 15x7's all the way around and have 245/60's in the rear and could have gone wider. I have close to 1" clearance at the rear inner fender lips.

If those are American Torque thrust "D" wheels the back space on the 15x7 is 3.76 inches. I take it your saying the your tight at the fender lips correct? The vinatage wheel might make a little more room but I am thinking of going 225/60/15 to be safe but I want more tire......go figure :D
HOWS THS Jul 31st, 09, 05:04 PM I just received my American Racing CL205's this week. They look great! 15x7 3.75"bs front and 15x8, 4" bs rear.

I agree. Jon gives great advise and he really knows his business. Go over to www.pro-touring.com and check out the wheel/tire section and see some of his creations with all the positive feedback.
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Aug 2nd, 09, 04:45 AM Is the car pictured on the first post yours.I personaly love the look of the Rally's on a stock car cant get any better than that...I do like Skips Billet Rally's though.....

68RS-SS Aug 20th, 09, 12:25 PM Nice post - I'm in same boat as you - blue '68 and thinkin about 17s with the gray centers. I've always been a full-on chrome/polished wheel kinda guy but now starting to think the gray adds dimension and depth to the wheels and at least for now - is more unique.

Joe, What color is the Camaro? A new member (Airbear) was interested and requested the info from me, I told him Bolero Red but please confirm. Those are some nice rims, I can't wait to get them on my Marina Blue Camaro! :beers:

It's 2002 Plymouth Prowler Orange, they might also call it Prowler Pearl Orange, not sure of it's official name. It's commonly called Prowler Orange since most gear heads know what the Prowlers were.
So hows that for complicated answer toa simple question....:D
