Has anyone tried to use a steering damper (shock absorber) on a power steering equipped car? My 69 has what I would call a wandering problem when driving. It's like you are going down a road that has a very high crown in the middle. A slight turn to the left makes you feel you're falling off the crown to the left, turning to the right feels the same like you're falling off the crown to the right. It makes for a scary feeling situation like you don't have control. I'm wondering if a damper or something would tighten up the steering and take that feeling away. Any help someone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No need to if the config is not way off right.
!st you need to know that there is no play in puitman arm, idler, and ball joints...except the lower which does have a little factory tollerance...the wheel bearing dont rumble and adjust right for nil or near nil play.
Once all this is correct you can ONLY Then start setting up the caster/chamber and toe in correct...(there are some very good old posts on configs for these )

And check the steerinn box doesnt have excess play or not to tight.

People will often say these old cars have crap steering...that is BS
We wher discussing this at the club the other night....
I can travel down a straight road, the max the stereing wheel will move to adjust direction is 4mm.

What ever you do DO NOT 'fix' with a damper, thats like putting a sticking plaster on a rust hole to stop water coming in, except worse.

You might just need to have it aligned. Too much Toe in will make it feel like it is darting. The responsiveness of the 1st gens, is too fast. IMHO. A change to an AGR or a 3rd gen IROC box will give you a much firmer feel.
