: My 69 resto started finally!!
409chevy Jul 27th, 09, 09:18 PM I have had this car for a while, but just started working on it yesterday. Hopefully I can keep everyone up to date on what I do with it every time I work on it.
The car is going to be a nice car. It was an orange and black rs/ss 350 4 speed. The engine and trans are long gone, but the original BM code 3:31 12 bolt is still in it.
What do you all think? It is going to be a big job, but it will be fun.
Everyone post with your ideas, or areas you want to see on the car.
It does have X1 behind the rear seat, one of the photos shows it.
I have tried to take as many photos of the car as I can before I started work to show that it is an actual rs/ss. Any other ideas?
Now down to the first question. What would you all do with the upper cowl rust? Try to fix it and keep all of the original tags in place or replace it with a new upper cowl and reattach the cowl tag?
Here are a few pics.

The Joker Jul 27th, 09, 09:22 PM Looks like you're going to have fun working on that, because sure as hell looks like a project. ;)
6781camaro Jul 27th, 09, 09:28 PM Clint...
Welcome aboard the resto-train. Awesome to hear that another '69 will soon (hopefully) be driving on the roads! Looks like you have a nice model to start with too.
I am subscribing for sure to this one (amongst 45 others now)--whew.... lots of good reading.
Just a quick tip though, try to post your pics vertically somehow instead. Easier to scroll through. Maybe someone can offer how to correct that for you. I am not sure. I use photobucket, and my membership benefit attachment feature to post my pics along the way.
Check out my thread anytime if you need good reference shots and info too. Many of the best Camaro builders on this site have helped me GREATLY along my journey. :beers: Enjoy the ride!
As far as your upper cowl, I would have to see pics of the entire thing to make a clearer judgement on replacing it or not. As long as you take many pics documenting the tags, you are good to go. Especially when posting them on this site. You can't lose. JMHO...
*only 70,919 more views on your thread, and you'll catch up to me. Lol!
409chevy Jul 27th, 09, 11:03 PM Thanks for the reply.
As far as the picture problem, I am not sure.
I use photobucket also and I have never had that problem before. Maybe I need to hit the enter button to drop down a line between the code for each individual picture. Not sure though!!
I can post some more pics of the cowl area, it will not be a problem.
I will check out your thread. Maybe I can pick up some ideas.
Man, 70,000 views, I don't know??
6781camaro Jul 27th, 09, 11:18 PM Yes--- that's it! Hit enter after each pic inserted. I do that now and it works. Completely overlooked that since it is old habit. That should fix it for you.
I replaced my inner cowl and it wasn't bad at all to do. There are only about 16 spot welds and it's out. Scary... Check my photobucket account in my link too. (more pics there) Have fun with the resto!
tones2SS Jul 29th, 09, 01:55 PM Looks like a cool project. The only real bad part looks like th cowl/firewall.
GOOD LUCK & keep us posted.:beers:
mb302rs Jul 29th, 09, 04:21 PM Nice car to bring back. I see its also a hugger orange vinyl top ,rear antenna , no spoiler car. Sweet !
Pauly Jul 29th, 09, 06:24 PM You're gonna be busy
Arai Jul 29th, 09, 06:38 PM You're gonna be busy
hehe.....yup.....I know exactly what you're in for.....I CAN"T WAIT!!!! :hurray:
409chevy Jul 29th, 09, 09:50 PM I have been looking forward to getting started on it for a while.
The last two days I have been working on it off and on, not all day. I have everything under the dash out. All gauges, wiring, heater box, etc. Also everthing on the rear and in the truck. I will take more pics tomorrow for an update.
The cowl is the worst part on the whole car. Still trying to make up my mind what to do with it.
Someone over the years has tried to fix everything with bondo. When I get everything off of the car that can be removed I am going to get rid of all of the paint and bondo. It will look much better just getting everything primed and in one color.
Thanks for all of the encouragement, Clint.
67CAMAROSS Jul 29th, 09, 11:03 PM get it ready and bring it down for cruisin the coast, mine was just as bad if not worse http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj246/THEROCK1_photo/stuff/sign-grd.gif nowhttp://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj246/THEROCK1_photo/0716091958b.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj246/THEROCK1_photo/0716092000a.jpg then http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj246/THEROCK1_photo/PICSAV008.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj246/THEROCK1_photo/byt031.jpg
409chevy Jul 30th, 09, 09:36 PM Man, it would be nice to have it done that quickly, but I would have to work really fast. I have never been to cruisin the coast. Maybe I can make time to come down for a few days and see some great cars.
That cowl looks very familiar.
How bad of a job is the drilling of all of those spot welds to remove the cowl?
409chevy Aug 2nd, 09, 09:05 PM Here are some more pictures of the cowl rust.

I finally have most all parts removed from the body. I still have to remove the quarter window glass and regulators, the rear antenna and the drivers side drip rail molding (which is very difficult to do without bending).

We have been sandblasting the cowl damage in these pics.

We have started cutting out the rusty spots in these pictures. The idea now is try to fix the original cowl.

6781camaro Aug 2nd, 09, 09:20 PM Just my opinion based on those pics.... you're going to need a ton of little patches to make that cowl work (and last). Are you sure you don't want to just replace it and be done? Take a close look at the inside surfaces of it as well through the wiper openings. Chances are if it is heavily pitted and holy like that on the outside, the inside can't look too pretty.
Nice dismantling progress. I almost miss that stage now...... :noway::noway::noway::D
6781camaro Aug 2nd, 09, 09:31 PM While you are sandblasting.... have you checked out this thread yet? It is quite important to read before doing any blasting...

Arai Aug 3rd, 09, 04:57 AM I would replace that cowl. You are going to have triple the hours into it for patching, and it the end I would worry about rust coming back.
Like Todd said....replace it and be done.
