: Passenger side rear upper shock tower?

I'm replacing the right rear shock tower assembly in my 68 vert due to rust and metal fatigue around the upper shock mount area. The rust is pretty bad and I cant seem to find good photos of the shock tower area.

I have the shock tower trunkpan patch panel.....

....and the shock tower support plate...

problem is that there is 3rd piece of steel sandwiched between these two parts. I seem to think it is the end of the horizontal cross brace that fits between the frame rails under the forward section of the trunk (I think this cross brace is welded to the complete replacement trunk pans).

I need to do some fabrication. Anyone have a good picture of the underside of a full trunkpan around the pass side shock tower or anything else that might give me a good idea of what it looks like? Im wondering if the shock also goes thru this piece.

Looks like the "horizontal cross brace" sheetmetal piece is only available with a full floorpan.

Thanks,
Dave

Yes dave the three peices are semisandwiched together on the shock mount. I am fabing pieces up right now on both sides on my 67. 67s are different because of the staggered shock mounting though. I havnt seen the middle piece sold by anyone by its self. Im currently working on the drivers side and havnt cut up the passengers side as of yet. I believe the pass. side is close to the same all three years. Itll probably be 2-3 weeks yet before I get to cutting it up for some pics. I will post some when I can.

Thank you Mark,

I'll also post some pics when I get all the rust cut away. Plan is to remove as little good metal as possible and weld in what I need.

So here is a picture of exactly the piece I need to find (or fabricate) somewhere. Minus the rust hole... ;)

EDIT: This is not my car. I wish I had this much metal left.

I personaly (because thats what I am doing) would just weld up the top piece and call it a day. I might run a 3 in. piece over the rust hole up to the top of the shock tower and down the front over where the shock mounts to add a little strength. But really I think by the time you tie it all togther it will be strong enough with out it. Maybe just cover the hole. Just dont be doing any baja racing with it. :)

You guys make any progress yet? Me and my dad are trying to figure out how best to replace his shock towers in his 67 vert.

Mine were both gone also....and trunk pitted so got a single complete replacement. Much better and cleaned up the trunk floor also. The shock area takes a lot of stress so don't know that I'd make it "just good enough". Another idea is just do a minitub anyway since to do that you cut out the shock towers. Good luck

Yeah, in hindsight he should have bought the complete floor. We didn't know that the shock towers were as bad as they are until know. The convertible repair is a bit more complex that the coupe. Trying to figure out the best way to do it.

You are correct it is the full width section in the center.
