Someone offered me a pair of micky mouse 62cc heads from a 327 sb chevy, complete with valves and springs.

Are these heads any good for performance on a 350? (1978 truck block)

i heared that the pistons in my 78 truck block are recessed, so was hoping these 62cc heads would bump the compression a little up.
a compression check showed 115-120 psi with orginal heads http://www.camaros.net/forum/frown.gif

thanx

I would think that if your current heads are around 76cc, then yes, switching to the Camel Humps should increase your compression, and also your performance.

I think that going from 76cc to 62cc will give you at least one full point of increase in compression.

The early double-hump heads are still very desirable. I say that because I have sold two pairs recently on E-Bay and got good money for both sets.

going from 72cc to 64cc will usually give you 1 point in compression, so going from 76cc to 62cc should give more than 1 point. Are you sure they are 62cc? without knowing the specs on the engine (deach height, valve relief sizes, domes or dished etc..) it is hard to give an accurate compression ratio. If I had to guess I would say you probably have about 8 to 1 or 8.5 to 1 in the stock 78 350 (with 76cc heads), switching to the 62cc should put you in the 10 to 1 range, that might be kind of pushing it with iron heads and pump gas. There are way to many variables to get very accurate. That is a guess, take it for what it's worth. I didn't run the numbers that is off the top of my head.

for a 350:
just changing the heads

if stock compression ratio is 8.5
using 76cc heads to 62cc.... new= 9.79

if stock compression ratio is 8.0
using 76cc heads to 62cc.... new= 9.11

With a typical smogger 350, 64cc heads will yeild about 9.1-1 compression...so you would end up about 9.2-1 or so. The 327 heads probably don't have accessory bolt holes...make sure you can get by without them 1st!
