: 1970 Camaro 12 bolt posi rear
BelAirBob Jul 30th, 09, 06:28 AM Have a line on a 70 Camaro 12 bolt rear. Axle code is COS 1217 G, which is a 3:07 non-posi code. Currently has 4:10 gears and posi. Realize that it will not fit a first gen without moving the perches, but whats it worth as she sits?
67 Plum Jul 30th, 09, 06:31 AM Not much Bob maybe $150.00.Where is it at?
J/K being a one year only rear end I would think $1000.00 or more even with the 3.07 non posi code.

In my garage :)
SPARKY69 Jul 30th, 09, 06:41 AM ita a 12 bolt for a 70 with a 410 gear. non posi? $1000.00
BelAirBob Jul 30th, 09, 07:27 AM It actually is a posi, 4:10 rear. Gotta be worth more than $1k with the posi? I dunno. Looking for opinions...:) May sell it to fund a first gen rear with less gear.

Looking for opinions...:) May sell it to fund a first gen rear with less gear.i think with the 410 or 373 or 355 gear its worth 1500.00 or better all cleaned up and nice and complete with ebrake cables and drums....i red the add wrong, i thought you said non posi, my bad!!
rich pern Jul 30th, 09, 09:37 AM I agree, 1000-1500 on the value. Rare item. as the later 2nd gens got 10 bolts even in Z28's. To someone who wants a 12 bolt, they"ll pay. Especially with the 410/posi setup in it currently.

Rich
67 Plum Jul 30th, 09, 09:54 AM With it coded for 3.07 non posi its no good for a Z28 or other HIPO cars.Someone wanting a 12 bolt can buy a Moser for $2100.00 or so and its new not 40 years old with used parts. Here is a 69 3.73 posi that he has been trying to sell for over a year http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=129136 .I keep seeing What's it worth and the answer of $1500.00 to $2500.00 for 12 bolts aren't what they are actually selling for.The only ones that seem to bring money now are the 4.11 and 4.56 coded COPO rears.JMO from what I have seen.

My point was that a 3.07 is not desirable for a resto so it will not bring as much money as a 3.73 coded rear. You can use the brakes and cables from your 10 bolt or whatever.I am not knocking Bob's rear but what if you buy it and the gears were set up bad?The spider gears have broken teeth on them ( a friend bought one like that).

67 Plum Jul 30th, 09, 10:55 AM And the real value will be what Bob sells it for.I hope he can get $1500.00 but like Bill said in this economy I don't think so.
cowboybob Jul 30th, 09, 12:39 PM I am not knocking Bob's rear
last year i would of bought bob's rear end!
I'm sure that Bob appreciates both sentiments!

green z Jul 30th, 09, 01:50 PM I had one of those rears . 373 orig gears spotless housing and posi. It only needed the pearches put back in the right place. I had it on ebay a couple times and no one wanted it . Ended up selling it for 750
SPARKY69 Jul 30th, 09, 01:56 PM Yup and a friend of mine had one to and sold it for 1500.00 bucks..

Uh,...... thanks? :o :D
Z15CAM Jul 30th, 09, 05:38 PM A 70 12 Bolt Posi with a 3 series carrier in Good Shape is worth an easy $2,000 to $2,500 and don't matter what ratio is in it - They are relatively rare compared to 1st Gen 12 Bolts. I wouldn't run any Gear Ratio Lower then 3.55's. 3.73's and 4:10's do not make a practicable ride and there are a lot of us who know that ;o)
mrmuncie Jul 30th, 09, 08:34 PM I have a 70 Camaro 12 bolt 331 posi all original (low miles). I've been moving around my garage for about the last 8 or 10 years. I'd like to sale but with the bad times nation wide I know it would sale for much.
Jeff H Jul 30th, 09, 08:39 PM 3.07 non posi 12 bolt rear is worth $1000-1300 at the most. It's nice that it has better gears and a posi in it, but I really don't see it bringing too much more. A 70 12 bolt rear is rare to some extent, but the 3.07 non posi code makes it just another rear. Some with an SS350 with the right dates might pay top value, but who knows.
69crazy Jul 30th, 09, 10:25 PM I have one I am in the process of selling Had it listed at $1500 no bites dropped to $1200 had a few nibbles went to $1000 ended up taking $800 cause I was sick of tripping over it I just havn't heard back from the buyer. This rear has a weird code It looks like COX but under the O is a faint P the rear is all original with GM gears but they are 2.73 with posi which would be CPX but that code is for a Nova I think measurements are definately 70 camaro also the rear is dated Feb of 1970 and the gears are Sept of 69 which I also find strange.Maybe dealer installed? and tried to restamp I don't know

I am sitting on a COX 3.55:1 rear out of a 70, it's worth big bucks from what I hear.
BelAirBob Jul 31st, 09, 05:53 AM Thanks guys!
