: Kid Causes $30k Damage in/to Dad's '69
PsyDoc Jul 30th, 09, 07:55 AM Wow...just wow. Off the cuff, if my kids did something like that, then it would probably be a good idea for him/them not to talk to me for a few days. But, if I encouraged such a burnout, then it would be my own damn fault. http://jalopnik.com/5325773/69-camaro-crashed-by-idiot-kid-doing-massive-burnout/gallery/
Skeeter55 Jul 30th, 09, 08:27 AM That kid needs a good a$$ kicking and then some more... I wonder if his dads insurance dropped him after they payed the 30K...
PROZ11 Jul 30th, 09, 08:38 AM What an idiot... Doesn't look like $30K in damage to me. Maybe the car is worth $30K but the pictures don't show major damage.. Maybe I missed something.

okiemark Jul 30th, 09, 08:42 AM I would never have done that when I was 17... not because I wouldn't have wanted to go out and burn the tires, it's just that my dad drove a '74 Pinto.
alanrw Jul 30th, 09, 08:46 AM Hmmm, that looks strangely similar to how my 69 looked in July 1969 when I parked it at a high rate of speed on a lady's front yard in Brentwood. Subframes can bend.

Shame on Alan, :p you couldn't stop it on a dime even with the JL8? ;):D
paulm Jul 30th, 09, 09:37 AM Huh...in reading that I'm wondering where that kid got the idea that it was okay for him to take the car out? Not only that but where he got the idea that it was okay for him to drive it like that.
Obviously I don't know the history there but my kids...if they even had the guts to get into the drivers seat of my camaro without me knowing about it I guarantee that as they reached up to turn the key they would start to get pretty nervous as there is ZERO grey area at my house about what's okay and what's not regarding cars.

Bueller, Bueller..........
My 11 year old daughter and 9.5 yr old Son are already fighting over who gets the 70Z COPO when I die. Lovely, my kids planning my death!

Melrose RS Jul 30th, 09, 09:50 AM What, no photo of the burnout tracks? No cellphone video of the crash?
BadMrFrossty Jul 30th, 09, 10:44 AM Ouchy on the eyes and heart!
HwyStarJoe Jul 30th, 09, 10:52 AM I guess the "Total damage: $30,000" takes into account the landscaping and whatever. There ain't that much damage to the car, and shrubs don't cost that much. Must be the medical bills for the kid after his father got home.
;)

I agree 100% unless the yard he damaged was aweful high dollar. No way there is 30K in damage to that car. I highly doubt the car is even worth 30K.

Ha ha! That is VERY funny! Thanks Rich...
BPOS Jul 30th, 09, 12:07 PM Similar thing happened to me last summer - a friend lost control of my car. Damage was $21,000. All fixed now and better than ever. Sadly, my friend passed away last week.

Well, someone left their sprinklers on, I came around the turn in a right hand 4 wheel drift and physics took over from that point. Something about water cascading into the street and coefficients of friction being exceeded..........It was pretty ugly.
But on the sunny side, it cured me for life of street racing....something about a 3' palm tree coming at you real fast and then the car finally stops inches before impact. Of course the lady flies out of her house screaming "look what you did to my lawn". Instead of keeping my mouth shut I think I uttered something to the effect "the grass will grow back, but I think my new car is done". She wasn't moved.

Calpantera Jul 30th, 09, 01:16 PM Maybe the car had a gold plated oil pan? :)
Cam6t9 Jul 30th, 09, 02:21 PM i have to be honest i dont know for the life of me why people beat the **** out of these classic muscle cars,,,, bring it to a track if you want to beat the crap out of it , but burnnig tires off of it and chancing blowing a rear or trans on a beautiful classic car is very hard to understand . unless you have tons of money to repair it i wouldnt chance it.
DOUG G Jul 30th, 09, 02:23 PM I'd kill !.....I don't see $30K in damage though (maybe if you used all NOS parts....right Scott ?) :D
But I laughed at this :clonk:

A week ago last Saturday evening we were going out to dinner. I went back in the house for a minute and my wife asked me if I heard that. Heard what? Tires screaching for a long time. About a minute later we heard the fire whistle blow and saw a cop go flying down our block. She thought it was that cop's kid up the block with the PBA shield that gives him Carte Blanch to drive like a Ahole who was burning rubber.
It came from the road behind our house, not up the block. So on our way to the restaurant we just had to see what happened. There was this really nice 68 or 69 black Camaro up in someone's yard. 2 blocks away there was about 30' of rubber from 1st, then another 30' from 2nd followed by about 400' of rubber going straight, then starting to curve to the right from getting crossed up and swapping ends. I was going to post this but I didn't have any pixs.
So my wife tells me our son, Mike has pictures. It turns out it was Mike's friend's house this kid landed up in. He knocked down the mail box, no big deal, but then hit a tree which fell on my son's friend's car along with doing some yard damage. My son said between the Camaro and property damaged, the kid did $30K of damage. He told the cop he was only doing 25 MPH and that the clutch stuck...yeah right. He put down 370' of rubber. The kid is in the red shirt and black shorts. The rear axle got cracked, he got a wreckless driving ticket and the kid's father's insurance company dropped him. I'd
ace's68 Jul 30th, 09, 06:12 PM HAHA that kid is a f****** TOOL!
Now go back home and watch fast and furious Vin Diesel.
Sorry, Got mine when I was 15 and never even came close to pulling some epic fail like this, kids like these cause stereotypes and higher insurance rates when your parents add you, though you didn't do shat...

Sorry about the death of your friend Al. :( Good friends can be hard to find.
zuma Jul 30th, 09, 07:00 PM I don't care if the car was worthless...I would have buried my foot up my kids...you know what...It was wreckless and stupid and luckly noone got hurt...end of story...IMO...
HwyStarJoe Jul 30th, 09, 07:16 PM My sons only 10 but I relayed the story to him tonight (without showing him this thread yet) with the intention of putting some fear into him. I told him that the father of the driver beat him to death when he found out.
He usually questions me when I make up stuff like that because he knows I'm kidding, but he didn't this time. I wonder if he believed me? If so, my evil plan is working.

:) HAHAHAHA That because he has plans when he gets old enough to drive the camaro and you just scared the living poop out of him:yes:.

Very good point! I agree with loosing a shoe in ones rear end as well.
camaroman7d Jul 30th, 09, 09:38 PM After reading the original post (linked above) it doesn't say that it is his dads car, just that it was his fathers insurance that was going to drop him. It could very well be the kids car. From the looks of it, my guess would be he is a spoiled kid and it's his car, that would also explain that he was so careless with it.
Everett#2390 Jul 30th, 09, 10:24 PM Would this mean he'll have to take the Cheesebox to/from school?
jhargrave960 Aug 9th, 09, 01:49 AM i cried when i saw the car, that beautiful piece of machinery mangeled like that, i would have beat him within a inch of his life
68zz502fi Aug 15th, 09, 09:14 AM very sad indeed, thankfully it wasnt a 68' ! :D

LOL I kind of did the same thing with my 15 1/2 YO who keeps asking for his permit. I can see that he has this new found strange look when he is near my cars. Our conversation went something like this; You will be unable to live life as you now know should you ever.....
67SS&99SS Aug 15th, 09, 05:59 PM Wow thats bad. I guess that guy will lock up his keys from now on, lol.
Whats the point in trying to do a john force style burnout in a street car in a residential neighborhood? I never have understood why people try to burn the tires completely off the rims when they do a burnout?
