: How's the weather?
68rs406 Jul 30th, 09, 08:46 AM So what are you guys in other parts of the US (and world) seeing for weather right now? We have had freaking unbelievably hot weather here in Washington this week. Yesterday in Seattle we set a new record that was 119 years old, the old record in Seattle was 100*, we saw 103* in Seattle yesterday. Keep in mind, Seattle is on the water and NEVER sees this type of weather. Inland a few miles we saw in the 100 teens, the next city over from where I work recorded 113*! That's flippen hot for anywhere, but for here it is ridicules. Keep in mind probably 85% of the homes here don't have AC.
We also set a record for the highest low (overnight) temp, 74* yesterday and I believe we saw 80* last night, longest streak of 90*+ weather (I think we are over 5 days now) and counting. Keep in mind we usualy see about 3 days ALL YEAR over 90*. Pretty crazy, thank goodness my office is in an air conditioned job trailer.
So how 'bout you guys?
SPARKY69 Jul 30th, 09, 09:09 AM its 80 and overcast here today(normally nothing but sun and a little rain)...we have been having normal weather! the nights are 55 degrees and our days range from 78-90 depending on how late in the months we are! we run our hot rods all year around!! maybe one day of snow!!
zlek131 Jul 30th, 09, 09:12 AM Just the opposite here in Denver. It's been 10-20 degrees cooler than normal for weeks now. Rain wise, we still can't believe it. It has rained just about every day for weeks which is mesmerizing for this part of the country. Last year by now, we've had 10+ days over 100 degrees while we haven't hit 100 this year yet. Also, last year we had close to 20 consecutive days where we hit 90+. This year I think we got to 91 twice. Global "cooling" in Denver for sure! Currently 53 and rain.
Forgot to mention...we had more tornados this year alone than we did in the last 20 years!
Melrose RS Jul 30th, 09, 09:15 AM Finally summer, 80's, humid. June rained from one end to the other. Raining cats and dogs today.
HwyStarJoe Jul 30th, 09, 09:33 AM Same here.... 80's and humid. FINALLY! :)
But it's rained all summer. Very unusual. Sick and tired of the rain.
sleepsinshed Jul 30th, 09, 09:42 AM Hey Sean, I think we found your regular weather. It's here in MA. It's rained so often this summer that my car has seldom gotten out of the garage. The de-humidifier is running 24/7 to keep mold from growing on it.
Joe Harrison Jul 30th, 09, 09:45 AM Well we in Arkansas have recived your wet weather and have had temps in the high 80's and lows on the low 70's to high 60's at nite. It's funny I was just saying the other day how the weather here is reminding me of Seattle weather. I think we will go on record here as the wettest July but I am not sure.....been working 12 hours a day the last few weeks and the last thing I need to do is see the aint it awful news cast about everything going on these days......LOL!!
68rs406 Jul 30th, 09, 10:29 AM Crazy weather patterns! Well you guys can keep -most- of our rain :D, we like the green, but I can deal with a bit more warm weather. I think Texas is seeing crazy hot and dry weather as well.
okiemark Jul 30th, 09, 10:40 AM if I knew how to post Randy Newman video I LOVE L.A. I would. "Rolling down Ventura Highway, big nasty red-head at my side..."
PowerWindows Jul 30th, 09, 10:41 AM Tempe Az: 108 yesterday and 108 today. Remember this though, it's a dry heat.....

TO simulate this stand in front of your oven with the door open and a fan blowing on you from inside.....in the desert toss in a little sand evey few minutes.....Simlute humidity by spraying water into the fan and leave out sand......toss in a masquito or two :D
Steve69SS396 Jul 30th, 09, 10:50 AM It was 94 yesterday and it's supposed to be 92 today. Average for today is 94, record was 113 in 2006.
jr68 Jul 30th, 09, 11:09 AM Been below 10 to 15 below normal all summer.
Its 61 right now.
prostreet69camaro Jul 30th, 09, 11:13 AM Texas is HOT,HOT,HOT,HOT with very little rain. All the grass is dead. Ground harder than hell, dont think about digging a hole. I have seen it 108 and the humidity makes it fell like 115 degrees. I run my fans in the garage and it feels like I have a hair dryer blowing on me.
nashcar Jul 30th, 09, 11:17 AM We've had a lot of rain here. After it stops raining it rains!
68rs406 Jul 30th, 09, 12:41 PM Tempe Az: 108 yesterday and 108 today. Remember this though, it's a dry heat.....
That was the talk on local television, we had temps higher than Arizona's yesterday, we recorded 114* in a city about an hour south of Seattle. What sucks is in Arizona you would be crazy to have no AC, in western Washington you would use it about 5 times a year, so nobody has AC.
Plus they are having problems with our draw bridges and such because of the metal expansion, and sidewalks etc. are buckling. It's crazy, but when they engineer stuff for expansion you have a table to go by, and a range of temps, 113*+/- damn sure was not on our high end....:noway:
It could get ugly around here too because all of the forests we have and they are all bone dry, prime for a forest fire.
I just looked at the high on our job web cam yesterday, here on site it was 105* with 20% humidity, I doubt the humidity though I think it was higher. Crazy stuff, supposed to be upper 90's today, a cooling trend...:D
Rich67 Jul 30th, 09, 01:05 PM in western Washington you would use it about 5 times a year, so nobody has AC.
...:D
Sean,
I was watching the NW cable news network last night and they reported that in the early 90's only about 30% of homes in the NW had AC compared to today with 80% of homes in the NW with AC. They must have had their numbers mixed up or I may have been mixed up from the heat and heard it wrong because I personally don't know anyone with AC(if I did I would have been at their house yesterday and today). Driving through the neighborhoods around here I see very few if any AC units next to the homes. Does that seem accurate to you? 80%?
Richard
keypilot Jul 30th, 09, 01:30 PM like 93* and sunny here.
cookkr Jul 30th, 09, 01:52 PM 106 yesterday, 106 tuesday and expected 100 today.... Not good... Cant even work on the camaro....

Sounds wrong to me too Rich, I thought I heard 18% of homes had it? I don't know though, but like you say I know of very few that do.
I did hear Portland has a higher percentage, but it seems like they are always a few degrees warmer too.
Mine is kind of old and has a hard time keeping up but I'm darn glad I have it, we actually talked about upgrading our furnace and getting an efficient heat pump last winter, but didn't pull the trigger. My buddy owns an HVAC company so that helps, I'll bet he's busy..

zuma Jul 30th, 09, 06:55 PM Sean...I have spent a little time in Seattle...It is a great town... I know this is the time of year when you guys get the great weather but this is ridiculous...I can just imagine how nice it is thou, when the temp is up... Hopefully it will cool down a little bit soon...
classicfan1 Jul 30th, 09, 07:54 PM rainy
DjD Jul 30th, 09, 08:04 PM Sean down here we've been in about a 5 deg below normal pattern for a while. The down side of that is it's more humid right now...
.Bad75. Jul 30th, 09, 08:08 PM Hot and it sucks. I went swimming today at the river and all i needa say is FML
Jeff H Jul 30th, 09, 08:44 PM Rain, humid, more rain. I won't complain about not needing to use AC (because I won't use it even if I need to) but the amazing amounts of rain have led to lots of mosquitos, really green grass and weeds, and everything growing needs to be cut back again! It's like we're still waiting for summer and I don't think it's going to arrive. At least the Jersey corn is now starting to show up at the farm stands so we have that to look forward to!
rafbody Jul 30th, 09, 09:13 PM It seems to be normal here. The same forcast every day. Highs in the mid 90's and lows in the mid 70's with scattered thunder storms.
PowerWindows Jul 30th, 09, 09:15 PM Supposed to be 113 this Saturday here in the Great Desert Southwest.
And you're right, every place around here has AC (you'd be crazy not to have it).
I remember when I moved here from Los Angeles 6 years ago. I checked the local weather charts. Gardena, Ca, number of days over 100 - 10. Tempe, Az, number of days over 100 - 100. Certainly was a change.
9 months out of the year it's awsome cruising weather though.
RamAirDave Jul 30th, 09, 09:54 PM Weather here has been strange all year. It's actually been strange the last couple of years. Tons of rain during the front part of the year, way over whatever index they use (it sure isn't what should be considered normal or any average).
June, July, August here is usually high 90s, touches into the triple digits. High humidity, but practically no rain.
Temps have been low and it has been raining like crazy here. Without knowing the stats, it sure seems like this July has seen more rain than the last 10+ combined.
I bitch about all the rain here, but I guess it's better than the sauna summers we usually have.
69CamaroRT Jul 30th, 09, 11:42 PM its been rainy here, not much of a summer yet, temps been in the 70's and the nights have been in the 50's and 60's. i dont think we had a 90 degree day yet.
arfuso Jul 31st, 09, 01:23 AM Sunny this week, high's of 20c( 70) and low's of 4/5c (40). Rained last week. Pretty normal for our short winter.
Bernie
SPARKY69 Jul 31st, 09, 04:58 AM 80 and sunny and breezy today,maybe a chance of rain!!
Chuck Jul 31st, 09, 07:12 AM Hot in Texas. Triple digits is the norm now. Severe drought. Don't like it too much, but payback for no snow/ice freezing your tail off winter is hell. You guys up north suffering will be all nice and cozy in a month and we will still be baking here.
buzzworth Jul 31st, 09, 07:59 AM First July on record with no 90* days here in L-ville. Much more rain than usual but the golf courses are nice and green !
ss
johnmh Jul 31st, 09, 08:03 AM Cold front blew through here tues evening. Brought 3/4" rain, and small pebble size hail. It cooled things down from the mid 80's we were having. Wednesday's "high" temp only got to 58 with rain/drizzle all day. I actually looked for a little heat in the pickup going to work that morning.
Much nicer yesterday and today. Sunny, low 50's to mid 70's. Wish it would stay all year!
I dont' know how you guys survive those triple digit temps. Got to be killer!
larryh56 Jul 31st, 09, 08:16 AM It's cooled off here the last few days, its only been 111 or so and I can actually breath when I get up at 5 AM and go outside. Is about 80 then but generally hits 90 by the time the sun is fully up. Now last week was HOT! I expect we'll see it dip below 100 during the day in a couple of months - late Sept if we are lucky. Not good for being in the garage.

I saw on the registration packet they mentioned that. Actually I never do anyway, it's kind of one of those deals at the track that is frowned on. Actually the track hates synthetic oil too, it's a mother too clean up.

Yeah Mike I really like the Seattle area, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have lived here my whole life and the whole rain thing is a little overstated, but we like to keep that intact...;) .
The weather is so mild by most standards you have all summer (which usually starts about now :D ) and then a lot of clear mild winter days to enjoy the outdoors, plus we have all the extremes within an hour or two drive, coast, rainforest, mountains and desert. My wife and I will go somewhere warmer in the summer on vacation, but I'm always ready to come back. This really is the best time of the year here, the last week has been nuts though...
68rs406 Jul 31st, 09, 08:33 AM Wow, it sounds like the Northeast is getting a lot of our weather, hopefully for you guy's sake you get a late summer like we always do, it gets warmer in July, into the 80's usually, then stays nice into October.
California is sounding crazy right now from what you guys are saying, sounds like some areas are in drought while others are cooler, crazy. Sounds like the south is getting hammered with heat, (and the Northwest), the midwest is about the same and the Northeast is getting rained on. Nuts.
Our weather has returned to normal nice weather for us, we are seeing mid to high 80's as of today and supposedly through the week (weathermen are very hit and miss around here though, the marine climate is tough to predict), it was in the high 90's and low 100's yesterday again. The worst part was even in the past when it was hot here, it always cools way off at night, it was back in the high 60's last night. It has been well into the 70's at night.
RSSSfanatic Jul 31st, 09, 11:57 AM First July on record with no 90* days here in L-ville. Much more rain than usual but the golf courses are nice and green !

Like Buzz said, unusually cool and rainy July in Kentucky. I recorded over 5 inches of rain at my house since Sunday, when I dumped the gauge with about 2 inches showing in it. Heck, we were wearing jackets and long sleeves on the 4th of July! This is quite a switch from the past 2 summers when we had record drought. I guess the trees needed a break. :p

Sean, I lived up in Seattle (Kent) back in 1991, and I remember they had a record stretch of days without rain that summer. Temps were much milder though - it was beautiful, actually - like San Diego.

You know it is like San Diego, without as high of high temps. The ocean helps keep our climates nice and moderate.
Kent huh? I'm working in Bellevue right now actually, right up the road from Kent.
Actually you are right about that, some of the records we beat were from the early 90's. It happens occasionally, it was just the temps lately were completely off the hook. It's funny about our rain too, we are known for it but as you know, we don't get massive rain storms too often, it's just a lot of drizzle so we are know for our gray skies, rightfully so.
Metal Man Jul 31st, 09, 12:33 PM 85-60 here in Gilroy Ca.
It sounds like the Pacific Northwest is getting our summer heat.
smez Jul 31st, 09, 02:33 PM Raining and high in the 90's on the gulf coast of texas today. Guess I cant complain we do need it. I hope it quits though. Got two car show tomorrow so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

SixtyAte Jul 31st, 09, 06:27 PM We have had rain here almost everyday for three plus months now. A few days in high 80's but mostly 60's to 70's and cool at night. Hot and humid a few days ago..pouring rain most of the day and right now. I think 15-20 dry sunny days in three months is a bit odd here in New England to say the least. It does however give me time to enjoy my new Grandaughter :)

MrDanB Aug 2nd, 09, 08:12 AM Sean,
Long time no hear! It has been miserable for me... I make electronic ceramics, so there is lead, manganese etc floating around. Can't open any doors or windows and NO AC!! We wear nomex clad overalls for safety and I think on the 103* day it was 128 inside the building... I remember opening the freezer and sticking my head in there a few times to cool off... We must be experiences the effects of El Nacho or something :D

I'm lucky because I have an office trailer on site that has nice cold AC, I go outside every now and then to warm up :D . The garage is relentlessly hot, looks like we are getting back to normal high 70's this week though.
68rs406 Aug 3rd, 09, 10:19 AM Wow the east is looking like the Northwest more and more. I feel for you guys, some summers around here just suck, rain (actually "showers") all summer long with a nice September/ October. On the bright side everything should be nice and green, that's one of the things I love about the great northwest

Northern part of the state is gorgeous and temperate this time of year. And it's only like this during the summer. Rest of the year it's like LA but with lower humidty.
Besides, the Grand canyon is something everybody should see before they die.
Today it's supposed to get to 114.....

Yeah, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse...
We took a trip to Lake Cumberland on the 25th and got hail dumped on us while out on the boat. The thought occurred to me that I could replenish my ice in the cooler just by holding the cooler over the side of the boat! At this point I am starting to think that the droughts we had the past two years are sounding awfully good!
Buzz - where in Louisville are you? Are you planning to hit the cruises up and down Preston this weekend for the Street Rod Nationals? Lots of cool musclecars out hanging in the parking lots around the fairgrounds with the rodders.
SPARKY69 Aug 4th, 09, 02:26 PM 90 degrees's and freaking hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KMG69 Aug 4th, 09, 02:43 PM 95* outside today but a cool 72* in my studio.
These temps are at 7000 ft. alt. :)

I heard that next year they are opening these "Streetrod Nationals" to cars up to '71 or '73. (I've heard both years quoted) It has the streetrod folks up in arms.
Some of these rods share little with their pre-49 counterparts other than the look. Most are 350's and fiberglass, but are absolutely beautiful.
Hope the weather is good....looks like the weekend will bring our first 90's since April....go figger.

SPARKY69 Aug 5th, 09, 05:10 AM 67 degrees's right now after a nice rainfall last night...time is 7:07am est!! Forecasted for today is 85 and sunny..
68rs406 Aug 5th, 09, 07:54 AM Our weather is back to reasonably normal this week, upper 70's during the day and high 50's at night, pretty good really. That's the oddest part of a marine climate, if you don't like the weather now just wait a few minutes... Plus we have two sets of mountains that create a rainforest to the far west of Seattle and a rainshadow just to the east of there that gives a little area (Sequim) about 325 days of a sun a year, then the rain starts back up right about the time the clouds hit Seattle moving east. The mountains create crazy convergence zones of sun and or rain. But lately it's just dry and hot, I'm ok with that.
I heard last night though we are looking at 75 of the last 79 days with no rain, crazy. No drought talk yet, we got a ton of snow last winter in the mountains so the lakes and reservoirs are pretty full.

buzz I have not heard that - about them possibly letting the later model cars in. I must say that it would be cool to see some musclecars mixed in, but I guess I can see it from the rodders' perspective as well. I wish the old Musclecar Nationals that they used to have at PJ's Stadium had not gone away.

zlek131 Oct 9th, 09, 10:29 PM Major sudden cold snap...October, usually goes like this: Down to 30's for a week or so, then upper 20's and that's when you blow your sprinklers out. Not this year! There was that week of 30's, no 20's and tonight it's going to be 16 degrees. It's 10:30 at night and I am blowing out my sprinklers as we speak (writing this as I am waiting for the air compressor to fill back up)! Neighbors got to love me...
68rs406 Oct 9th, 09, 10:52 PM Crazy, we are still having great weather, it was in the 70's-80's about 3 weeks ago, then fall came. It's still beautiful during the day, but has been creeping into the high 30 at night.
They say we are in for a dryer warmer winter this year. We usually have a real late summer/ nice fall into October, then the crap hits the fan and it rains and rains and rains. So far it has been super dry though.
