: help me lower my vortec's et!

i just got the chance to use my g-tech and am dissapointed at my et results because my two previous motors (stock & rebuilt w/2.73 one legger) did better than the current vortec headed 350HO/380HP.

15.67 @ 86mph - previous stock best at baylands raceway.

14.89 @ 91mph - after rebuilding original to 355 w/head work/cam.

my 350HO w/3.42 posi ran the following on the g-tech:

16.1 @ 84mph - idling off the line..wheelspin through second gear until i let off.

15.6 @ 90mph - easing into the throttle w/wheelspin off the line unconsiously shifting @ 3500rpm!

i know i need better tires. my 265/50/15's bfg radials aren't able to bite. how can i further improve my times....since others w/similar combos are sunning high 12/low 13's, i feel as though this combo should be capable of low 13's too....help!

You've pretty well answered your own question. Get that thing to bite and low 13's are entirely possible. I have a very similar combo in a much heavier truck with taller gears and it runs 15.1's on street rubber and easing it off the line to keep from frying the tires.

I run the 350/330 ho completely stock with an Edelbrock performer rpm manifold and carb in my 69z28 w a 12bolt 4.10's, posi and an m-21. I run 13.9 and the car weighs in at 33-3400 lbs depending on load etc. My 60'suck at 2.4 even with subframe connectors and a posi. The car spins like crazy off the line. I say get some good rubber on the back that should help alot. Did you use the crane springs in the vortec heads? I am planning on doing this mod over the winter.

The tires are a big part of the picture, but your MPH is awefull low too. Did you get out of the gas too early? (before the run was complete) Maybe there is still a bug or two to work out with your combo . . . is it doing anything weird?

Baylands Raceway? I thought Santa Fe kicked them out about 15 years ago...

thanks for the insight guys....

onovakind,

yeah, that's how longs its been since i ran my car down a track...before the old baylands closed down!

dave,

you'll love the new cam...pulls hard from 3000rpm+. i changed to the 981 springs...now of course i want to switch to the ls1, beeehive springs and go big roller!! i'll prob get this combo dialed in then go w/125HP of nitrous....that's what lead me to time this combo...i wanna see improvements!

eric,

thanks, w/g-tech i don't when the 1/4 mile is up & just let off around 100mph & now i realize that my speedo is way off since the tire size & axle ratio are different from stock! i'm sure it has to do alot with traction, me letting off early and hell.....maybe i could just hire eric to drive my car since he can run 11's on radials!!!!!

thanks again!

When I saw Baylands I though it can't be and went on. Aside from your traction problems you wouldn't find a much faster track than Baylands especially at night.

what model g-tech are you using, the pro version starts the clock as soon as your car moves as opposed to the competition model and an actual track which starts the clock after you break the beam which at your speed is about .4 secs after the car moves, so you have to subtract this from your g-tech times to compare to your track times.

czar As long as one 11 sec run of 9 passes is OK, sure I'm for hire

Good luck . . .

sfcam,

yeah, its the old/original g-tech....pretty sure my probs are traction and me letting off too early @100mph, w/my speedo being off!

eric,

you're hired!
