I have a 67 camaro. I'm trying to see engine block numbers without removing tranny bracket. It's supposed to be a 327 with a power glide.

there is a great book
"chevy by the numbers"
that help you id almost everything gm
built from 1965 to 1969
but those numbers on the back of the block is
best way, you also can id heads by pulling valve cover
and of course crank also
you can have a block that says 350 but
is running 327 crank

I have a 67 camaro. I'm trying to see engine block numbers without removing tranny bracket. It's supposed to be a 327 with a power glide.
You have the exact same problem I have, the casting numbers on the back of the block (drivers side) at the back bottom of the head are hidden by -what I think it is- the powerglide's kickdown cable bracket, the space in there is so tight that you can not see more than the GM mark (frustrating) the only thing you have left is the engine assembly date and suffix code stamped on the front pad infront of the drivers side head. Mine is TI0I3MM: T=Tonawanda plant I0=October I3= 13th day of the month and MM stands for 327/275 hp (L30) with Powerglide transmission. On the cowl tag I have 10=October and D=4th week, so far so good. Other than that I took the head casting numbers which are 3890462, and all I could find about them is that they are double hump heads used in 327 and 350 engines between '64 and '67 and they could be either 2.02/1.60 or 1.94/1.50 64cc, I guess I won't know that either untill I take engine appart.
Luckily I am pulling the engine and transmission for a complete overhaul in the next couple of weeks, but after loosing a pound or two between swet and skin of my hands and knuckles that is as far as I got with the numbers.

According to the last one in 1967 there were 2 types of L30's MM=automatic and MK=3 or 4 speed manual
To all of you knowledgeable people reading these posts please correct me if I am wrong, because so far this is the only thing (aside from my hope) that my engine is matching to my car taht is until I pull it out anyway.

has to be on the drivers dive way in the back little to no room at all to see anything, cant see from under neath or the the top at all nothing...lying down accross the top oif the engine looking down I see the big GM letters 3970010 i think i have no idea if this makes since there is so much caked on oil, i may get some degreser tommorw and see what happens if it helps.

based upon Rats3j396 the engine block SM 3970010 is dated 1969
3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4

im certain its a 327 probally a truck lol. Another eason why im switching outto the 383 ..
