I cannot find a 3SK code in the "white book." Would they have combined the Z21 and Z23 codes together instead of 3S and 3K? Or what is this for?

THE 3s IS THE interior CHROME AND THE 3k is the EXTERIOR chrome

Thanks, that's what I thought but I just wanted to confirm it. Along with the exterior chrome it mentions something about a stripe, can you tell me which stripe it is? ie. bumble bee, hockey stick or pin stripe?

The RPO Z21 Style Trim group for 67 included front and rear wheel opening moldings and color-keyed body side accent stripes. Also included roof drip cap molding on coupe.

The "body side accent stripes" are pinstripes along the top body line.

Thanks, I guess that takes care of all my trim questions now. Now I can start concentrating on the stripping and prep for restoration over the winter.

5B is large rear bumper guards...

Hey Dennis I never have understood why this means only rear larger bumper guards. I mean many of the so-called survivor cars I have looked at with this code 5B have both front/rear large bumper guards.
My car has 5B but original bumpers are long gone.

Did Chevy have another designation besides 5B for front and rear?

Imo it seems strange that they would only include only the large rear guards and not the front matching ones.

Has this code 5B regarding rear guards only still hold true or is there new info on this to suggest it could mean both front and rear?

Only the rear guards would have been installed by Fisher Body, and therefore would be on the cowl tag. It would call out to FB folks, hey, make sure this car has rear bumper guards.

The front and rear guards are separate RPOs, V31 front and V32 rear, with no requirement to order both. Odds probably were that anyone ordering one would also order the other (heck the fronts were $12.65 and the rears $9.50).

So just because 5B cars seem to have front guards didn't mean 5B included front guards. Fisher Body did not need to worry about what went on the car after it went through the wall to GM ops.

Let me get this straight, so Fisher body installed rear ones when ordered while G.M. installed the front when ordered?

Well, I guess I am not entirely correct. The bumpers were installed on the Chevrolet side of the plant, but there must be something different in the Fisher Body side of things that requires the 5B on the tag. Maybe different mounting holes/hardware on the bottom of the tailpan for V32 equipped cars??

That's correct - the large rear bumper guards required unique body provisions for the lower attachment in the rear valance panel. If Fisher welded the wrong valance on the body, Chevrolet couldn't install the V32 guards.

Thanks John. Ok now it is starting to make sense. So I am guessing Fisher body welded a support to rear valence?
Does anyone have a pic or have any available off a donor car? I no longer have my original rear valence guess I overlooked those when I removed it years ago.

I have a pair of nos rear bumper guards and would like to use em.

Could it be just a hole in rear valence that Fisher body added and not a support? Anyone?

Actually, it was two holes on each side - one in the recessed area of the tail panel forward of the bumper, and another one near the edge of the bottom flange. They show in the A.I.M. on the V32 sheet (which normally indicates that Chevrolet would drill them), but in reality they were probably done by Fisher in the Body Shop rather than Chevrolet drilling them through the painted body shell. Otherwise there'd be no reason to code V32 on the Fisher cowl tag, as Chevrolet installed the bumpers and guards.
