View Full Version : What do you think of Demon Carbs?
yipman64 Jan 16th, 03, 09:05 AM I plan on running a Demon 650cfm DP on my ZZ3. What do you think of them. Other carbs I have in the garage are a Edelbrock 600 cfm and an Edelbrock 750cfm. is the Demon the best for the job. It sees street and strip duty. Anybody have experience with the Demons?
HOTRODSRJ Jan 16th, 03, 11:16 AM I use both Demons and Edelbrocks for several types of applications. Frankly, I like the looks of the Demons, but they are harder to fuss with jetting and especially idle stabiility. I also had to clean out all the machine tailings... But, I can live with that.
The Edelbrocks are easy as pie to tune and adjust, very stable... and after testing many on exacting same engines on the dynos.....there are NO power advantages to either when they are set up correctly.
So, looks....Demon;...easy of tuning and stability....Edelbrock. In my opinion save you money for another day unless you just have to have a coooool looking carb!

Eric68 Jan 16th, 03, 12:48 PM The Demon 650 is the right size for your engine. The 600 is a little small and the 750 is a little big IMO. I run a Speed Demon 750 on my 388 and like it a lot. The only 2 things I had to do was set the idle mix / speed screws and replace the bowl / metering block gaskets with the good Holley blue rubber ones.
Have not had any issues with "idle mixture stability" at all. I think these types of problems may be related to having the front idle screw open more (or less) than the rear idle speed screw --- you have to keep them the same with a four corner idle carb.
Silver69Camaro Jan 16th, 03, 01:03 PM I love my Demon. I'd admit, it's a little more difficult to get the idle circuit dialed in properly.
But once you get it set, it's great! I love the throttle response, it's murder on tires! I have found it more stable than Edelbrocks, the Demon seems to 'hold it's tune' better. Edelbrock and AFBs are really a bolt-on and go deal...very easy to work with.
I'm using a Road Demon. If you have a wideband A/F gauge, you'll be amazed at how stable the mixture is at full throttle. My gauge hits 13.2 A/F at WOT and STAYS there during the entire 1/4 mile. By my own experience, Quadrajets, Holleys, and Carter/Edelbrock's WILL NOT do that! They'll wander from about 13:1 to about 14.1:1 during a run.
This is my own personal experience though.

BBCamaro Jan 16th, 03, 02:33 PM hey i agree demons are great looking and work awesome, my local engine builder loves them could not believe how well the work out of box, he uses the speed demon series none other, also those edlebrocks are for the guy who doesn't like to tune as they are very easy but i don't see many edelbrocks on quick cars at the track at least in my area, i personally have a bg 850(barry grant) and love it, looks better than a holley but not like a demon, i think i am going to buy that new quick jet change plate that goes inbetween the metering block and the fuel bowl, so jet changes are fuel spill free!! but i would go with the demon!!!!

Silver69Camaro Jan 16th, 03, 04:23 PM "edlebrocks are for the guy who doesn't like to tune "
I would really disagree with that. They provide excellent fuel economy on the street, pretty close to a Qjet.
I would say they are for somebody who wants good fuel miliage on the street most of the time, and makes an occasional trip to the strip.

BBCamaro Jan 16th, 03, 06:31 PM sorry to get you going a bit silver, i just meant they are easier to tune and get results out of, and good mileage but if you drove your car with a demon then drove it with a edelbrock i can promise you that you would want the car with the demon on it, they out perform edelbrock, demon along with holley and bg that is, yes the edelbrock is great out of the box if you are looking for econonmy but how many of use want fuel econonmy out of a 400 hp 350 or a bigger bigblock????

boodlefoof Jan 18th, 03, 01:36 PM CNC,
I'm interested in seeing the link that you posted but I get a "site not found" page.
CamaroNOTcamero Jan 18th, 03, 01:48 PM Their web forum ran out of room and it just got cut off.
The headline was "Barry Grant Pro Stock uses a Holley Carb!"
The driver of the BG pro Stock stated that the Barry Grant Demon carbs arent Up to Par yet, basically.
Seems that thew Fact that the BG Pro Stock team will use a Holley Over a Demon seems enough for me that Holley works better.
The Jeg's Pro Stock Team uses a Pair of Pro System Holley Dominators.
ZZ430DropTop67RS Jan 18th, 03, 01:55 PM Holley pays good contingency money to the Pro Stock guys.

CamaroNOTcamero Jan 18th, 03, 04:49 PM I dont think that makes up for the Driver saying that the Demon carbs werent good enough to use.
BBCamaro Jan 18th, 03, 05:09 PM i think he gets paid enough and barry grant doens't mind cause there giving them more than enough money for the pro-stock team to let his driver say that about demons, i am sure i raced prep holley is as good or better than anything, this really has nothing to do with a street car, as i am sure these carbs are over a thousands bucks anyway, so they are a little different than a 400 dollar holley or demon, but they are both great carbs i personally have a bg 850 dp
