Hey guys just a question that I think I can answer.Today as I was putting the carb on my BB 69 the venturi hit the hood insulation on a SS hood about 3" away from the latch.so a quick call to my friend who has a 69 BB car with an SS hood & no insulation then all the mesurements started & after all that everything came back the same except mine had insulation.I also know that all COPO & Yenko cars came with cowl hoods so does that meen a 69 with a BB cannot run a flat hood because it sits higher than a small block. Thanks Irvin

I am pretty sure original first generation Camaros with big blocks all had either the special SS hood or a cowl induction hood. See link below.

This will somewhat depend on your intake and air cleaner combination. You might be able to run a low rise intake and a drop base air cleaner and make it work. Not sure.

All big blocks came with the SS hood, which does have a slightly higer center section than a flat steel hood that a Non SS car would have. ZL2 hood was an option but not required on a big block.

All 69 SS had the SS hood as std equipment; ZL2 optional.
COPOs 9560 & 9561 included ZL2. ZL2 required on Z10 & Z11.

And the SS hood works fine with the factory aluminum highrise. But a ZL2 works a lot better and is functional, not fake. To this day many drag cars copy the ducted hood. No copy needed for 69 Camaro owners.

Thanks guys .Hey Bryon thanks for the link I did see that you could order a insulation on the SS hood for the BB.I guess the one classic sent me doesnt have the cut out for the indention in the hood.I'll try it without the insulation for now and give them a call to see if they have a different version. Thanks Irvin
