I was looking at 17X8 fronts and 17X9.5 rears. Will the fact the original drums are on the rear effect choice or back spacing?

Patrick, measure at least 3 times before you buy anything, also take into account your suspension and brakes and steering are they up to the increase in width/traction think it through and research. different tire size/traction can have a significant effect on your cars handling and safety especially if your suspension is tired. good luck with your project!

Not enough to make a difference. The difference between the thickest brake rotors and thnest drums is 1/8th inch at most. And if a 1/8 inch is going to cause problems, you missed anyway.

Use a 4.75" to 5" front BS and a 5.5" BS on the rear
