i saw that they sale transbrake that are for launching in second gear, whats that all about? i thought it was bad for autos the launch in anything other than 1st? i messed up at the track and did this accidently, but at the same time cutting my best 60' of the night and still ran the same times as my other passes, is it bad for the converter? do u have to have a special converter to handle that? i got a B&M nitrous holeshot 2400 with antiballoning plates, i hear about some ppl launching in 2nd so they can have less wheel spin, can some1 just elaberate more on this to me, seems kinda interesting since i cant hook in 1st on the street at all, but at the track it hooks like a dream:beers:

No damage can be done. Some use the next gear, usually four-speed cars if rear ratio is 4.56 and beyond, depending on trans ratios, all to keep from spinning the tires, aka, lack of traction.
Usually a looser convertor is used to bring the engine up to its torque range and as long as an external oil cooler is used, its good.
As you seen by your science project, using second gear seems to do the same, remove the tire spin, really kills 60 ft. times, and you acquired the same results, thanks to the stroke of the engine and the torque multiplication of the convertor.

When you say it hooks good at the track, do you mean in 1st or 2nd gear?I assume you mean 2nd.While that may be the case,I'd work on getting it to work leaving in 1st,if you can get it to do that, your 60's will be better and so will your 1/4 ET.I have had the same problem, worked on my tires and suspension and solved the problem. So can you!

yea it hooks great at the track, its the first time it didnt spin at all on 1st gear launch, pulled great all the other numbers were similar, when i get home ill post up the slips, the 2nd gear launch was an accident, im used to my horseshoe shifter, now i have the turbo cheetah shifter so when i hit the bottom i accidently thought it was in first, until i notice that gear was taking soooooo long haha, pulled a 1.71xx 60' , still the best of the night, but every run i hooked reeeeal good
i would love for first gear to hook good on the streets, but i dont see it possible, all i got is 3.70's on a 26" MT street radial...
