I was just curious if anyone was running these on the street in their daily drivers. Do they work well on the street? Any pro's and cons?

A friend and I both had them on street cars; 69 Camaro's. With the pre-load that Cal Trac suggests they really make the rear suspension stiff. Too stiff for us to enjoy the street manners of the car. With about 1/2 turn out on the pre-load they ride well and still seemed to improve the way the car hooks.

I use CalTracks on the track preloaded and dont see any problem with them. The ride is not bad in my opinion and doesnt ever stop me from driving.

Problem with the stiffness on mine probably has to do with the rest of my rear suspension; 17" wheels/tires, Bilstein shocks, 5 leaf springs, Del A Lum solid bushings, etc. With pre-load made it too stiff in my opinion. I've also got friends with 9 second cars that say the same thing. Without the pre-load they're fine.

An alternative is the SSM lift bars.
They are alot less $$ and they work pretty good.

i run cal-tracs on my 68, factory 5 leaf springs, and i can't say enough good about them. what a huge difference they make in how the suspension works. unfortunately i haven't used them at the track yet, so no 60' times, but i'm very confident in them. as for on a driver, mines not daily driven (but often), and i see no reason you couldn't use them on a daily driver. with the preload cranked up it does stiffen things up, not uncomfortably w/ the stock springs, but i run them w/ about 1/4 turn of preload on the street, you really aren't going to see the value in the preload untill you hit the track anyway, imo. and adjusting them is a piece of cake. they are also an incredibly well made piece, easy to install and they fit perfect. so i highly reccomend them, worth every penny spent. i can't wait to hit the track w/ them this year!

I run Cal-Tracs on my car, to and from school, across town and out to the track (69' RS). I have Calvert Racing's split mono-leafs as well. The ride is a bit stiffer, probably due to the solid aluminum bushings. I just don't set the pre-load when I'm on the street. If you do, I heard it can create some binding. Anyway with out the pre-load set, they just kind of act as a set of slapper bars. Hope that helps. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for all your replies, the Cal Tracs sounds like a good investment for getting better traction. Hopefully I can get a set for my car soon.
