Ask the guys at the machine shop that did the work on your engine. They should be able to hook you up with one of thier customers who builds engines.

X2!
Yikes! Get a book. It's not that hard. Most of the machine work sounds like it's done for a decent street engine. You'll also want a roll around crane. Cheap. Much cheaper than paying a pro.

yup- you can buy the tools for what you'd pay for labor to have someone else do it, and you get a certain type of satisfaction from doing it yourself. it is one of those things that makes the car truly yours, and once you do your own engine everything else on the car is nothing.
pdq67 Aug 30th, 09, 05:46 PM My 2nd engine was put in w/ the help of a big crap apple tree and my wife's baby Brother in the corner of her folk's front yard years ago!!

knightmoose Aug 31st, 09, 08:04 PM seriously get all your s@#t now and bail its that simple, i dont care if you have to take it in pieces and have the car pushed by 10 crack heads on the corner, never leave your baby in the hands of idiots.. i have been there down that road and there are many on the fly idiots holding some retarded mechanic certificate claiming to be something they arent, it may hurt your pocket $$ to do this but in the long run it will pay off, find a place that is reputable they are out there, ask for refrences, hell there are a lot of good out of work mechanics that will come to you and do the work,
man if you were in los angeles, there are a few amigos i know that will have your car put together in the parking lot of pep boys im not being sarcastic or stereo typical im just saying the economy is tuff and there are people willing to work and have they have skills. He just quit, i would kicked some *** over that!!!!!!
Microgiant Sep 1st, 09, 07:30 AM I built my engine up, it went fine, follow the instructions and its not too hard. My only regret is I have 1 or probably 2 leaks and I will have to pull it back out to fix it. Im guessing someone who has been doing it for years would have got it right the first time.
Fred Ficarra Sep 1st, 09, 11:18 AM And this thread is reminding me of my first engine pull. It was on my 54 Hudson with a Hydramatic 4 speed. My brother and I rigged an A-frame with one side a apple tree in the back yard. Pulled the engine/trany with a chain fall. We were 16 and it was 1964. We rebuilt it and reinstalled it. (didn't run long but we were 16!) Do it!

I live in CT as well & there is a very reputable machine shop in Granby called Precision Automotive Inc (9 Herman Dr Simsbury, CT 06070-1403 (860) 651-3418). Norm built my 427/550HP big block (drove yesterday for the first time) & I couldn't be happier. They also can dyno it if desired.
Of course a reputable shop will be more expensive then a guy someone knows - but it will be done right & they won't quit on you. Someday I will build my own engine when I have a better shop/more time.
Good luck
