I have installed a sunpro air/fuel meter in my car just today, single O2 sensor only, when I hook the gauge up and power everything according to the diagram they provide it reads rich with the car off... wouldn't it be reading lean?
I'm certain it works and it confirms that I need to jet up my carb it leans out real bad under load.

http://www.sunpro.com/publish/2004/08/05/pdf_english_16293.pdf The section called 'gauge operation' says with the motor off and key on all segments of the gauge are off.

I know that, I have the gauge hooked up hot instead of hard wired in right now so I don't have to commit to anything right now

My Autometer one reads rich as well with the key on so you're probably fine.

Don't leave it on with the key for long periods of time without the motor running. Because the 02 sensor will be glowing hot and if you start it when its that hot it will crack the 02 sensor.

no worries not having it on for a long time without the motor on, car's sitting right now until I get the car rebuilt, it's doing exactly what I thought it would be, at idle and cruise it's nice and rich (one bar from the highest possible reading) when you womp on it the gauge drops dangerously low, I'm thinking I have a bad/incorrect power valve, so I'm replacing that on my day off, car's sitting in the garage until then
