Hi,
Will a 275/60/15 fit under a 68 with a standard rear guard, it has standard width rear and standard lip on guard, will be using either 8" rallye or 8.5" Centrline or is it going to rub?

Is a 255/60/15 a better option?

Thanks

275/60/15's fit fine on 15 x 8's or 8.5's with 4.5" backspace.

Thanks Doug for the reply,
when you say fit, is that with all the tire inside the guard lip so you could lower the rear so the top of the tire is up inside the guard?

I don't think you can get a 68 that low with the round fender openings. Mine is considerably lower than the 2 pictured, but I still have maybe 2 fingers between the tire and the fender. Yes, I run 275's, on 17" rims

A lot of 15x8 rallye's have 4" backspace and won't fit. I think it's the monte carlo ones that have 4 1/2, corvette ones have 4"

Oh yea... watch lower shock mount clearance, that's where people get into trouble with 15" rims, the lower shock mount rubs the inside of the rim if there is too much (or maybe just the right amount?) of backspace.

a 255/60 or a 265/50 on an 8.5 centerline was my max size. If you look at all these pics the arse end is up like a 4wd .If you want it to tuck a bit try smaller sizing

Yes I could (and want to) lower the car some. I'm pretty sure I could tuck the tires if I went low enough.

255 seemed about as big as I could get under my car with a 15x7 ralley they would rub the inside if I was going over anything with an angle. On my 15x8 welds it was not so bad. When my 235 drag radials wear out I am going to a 245 60 15 on the back and that should be just about right. I have hotchkis rear springs and a 1 inch block.

Hi NOVOCASTRIAN,
Thats looks something like the stance im after, I thought a 255/60/15 was most likey the go with a 8.5 centreline, with the height of the 255/60/15 it will fill the guard up and with out a major lowering job it should let tire tuck up under the guard a little.
What size fronts are they 205/65/15 or maybe 225/60/15
I was planning to run 225/60/15 on 8.5" rim and 225/60/15 on 6" rim

The car currently has 245/60/15 and 235/60/05, and sits not too bad for a 68 but just needs a little better package.

Do you guys worry about the back of the tires hitting the wheel arc? Like if you hit a bump the top can tuck no problem but im talking further back where the wheel arc curves inward.

Mine will hit on a big dip if i'm running pretty fast. 5" would tuck them back so the arc of the tire won't hit. The 4.5 looks good.
