Go to Borders/Barnes & Noble and buy a bankruptcy guide. You should be able to get the basics of what it will and won't do for you, and may be able to file on your own, depending on what you own. Be prepared to pay a lot for any credit you might get in the immediate future, if you can get credit at all.

Been there, done that. I filed in 2003. I tried to start my own business with all my available credit. I was able to keep my house and vehicles including the pile of parts that we call a 69 Camaro. I just refied my house at less than 6 % last Dec and have one new credit card (rate unknown). I don't spend what I don't have anymore, I learned.

you live in WA, make you way up north for a bit, a lot of opportunity here, depending on your career, you might be able to be successful here (vancouver bc)

It hitting our children and familys
1 son down to 1 or 2 days a week...the rest of the week he is fixing up peoples bathrooms, odd job gardening, painting, cutting trees.....when he can.
Other is out of work, doing the same in another town
Other is flipping patties at big m.
They have put veggie gardens in the back yard, and their children help.
We see more of them and the grand children for dinner now...we buy the food they cook it lol.
The problem I see with many of the younger generation...under 40..is they have had good jobs, management /professional type....It seems they have an attitude that digging drains, gardening around the neighbourhood is below their 'statis'

Something my grandfather and father (who lived thru the 1930s) always said
"If you are doing something, anything, something eventually turns up"
ie lets say you are cleaning up a home who you have been recomended to because you do a top job, go the estra mile....chatting to the wife or husband...they maybe a big wig in a company..they can oick an choose those with good work ethic...they learn you are a manager/ professional....and not afraid to get your hands dirty or do what needs to be done....OK you may have to start at the bottom again...but if you have those ethics, promotion is not a problem.

Don't feel bad to do it, its your earned right to do it and some of the richest people in the world have done it! My parents filled for bankruptcy before. **** happens but you will always get thru it! From here on out just do your best on getting back on track and before you know it youll be done with it.

Going through it now...got a trustee meeting friday. Losing pretty much everything I have ever worked for

I am underemployeed...making less than I was 10 years ago, 6 hours from home. I get turned down for jobs all the time because of what I used to make...WTF??? I've had some really promising job interviews in the last few months...only to have the jobs cancelled or put on hold indefinately. This last one was pretty much a done deal...required moving to TN but since I am losing my home and property it doesn't much matter anymore. They put the job on hold at the last minute...glad I didn't give my 2 weeks notice with the current employer :(

Yeah, it sucks, but I was at the point of being mired in debt indefinately if I didn't do something. Cost of living just keeps going up all the time isn't helping anybody either.

I am seeing this with a lot of people in my line of work.
