67CamaroRS/SS Sep 2nd, 09, 06:23 AM According to the description, the system comes complete with the 6000K HID kit. Now the 6000K HID IS NOT THE BRIGHTEST LIGHT OUTPUT!!! The higher the Kelvin number DOES NOT MEAN the brightest light. The brightest light output comes from a 4300K kit. That being said, when it comes to HID kits, you get what you pay for. If you can get an HID kit along with the composite light housings for only $80, then the HID kit is of cheap quality. It says it's a bi-xenon kit which means both hi and low beam, but again, the price is what scares me. I run HID's in my Camaro and I paid over $200 just for the HID kit so take that for what it is. If you want some good HID kits, go here:
http://www.kbcarstuff.com/HID_Kits_s/216.htm
The higher the Kelvin number, the more violet the light becomes.
rs69ss Sep 2nd, 09, 06:02 PM check these out. May take some fabricating to mount if there is enough room.

I will probally just go with a halogen myself.
697ibew Sep 2nd, 09, 07:00 PM I've bought some aftermarket HID's for my 03 Sierra and haven't had a single problem with them. I would definitely shop around and do some research, but the light output from HID's are fantastic. Make sure you purchase some relays and all the necessary wiring. You DO NOT want to run the ballasts off your existing wiring. Start up amperage isn't too forgiving to your stock wiring and you may ruin the ballast. Good Luck, Jake
Mark .L.W. Sep 2nd, 09, 09:44 PM I have 2 cars and one truck running the HID kits....i run the 55w ballasts and they are the only way to go .The last setup i bought was $95.00 US for low beam and the same for high beam.
Mark.
Joe Harrison Sep 2nd, 09, 10:54 PM Is this a kit you need to convert a 67-69 Camaro?

Kokamo Oct 16th, 09, 06:03 AM I went with a kit from www.hids4oldschoolcars.com (http://www.hids4oldschoolcars.com/) and love em. He sells them on e-bay from time to time as well. He goes by the name super_hawkvtr1000 (http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/super_hawkvtr1000/) His kits can be found HERE (http://www.hids4oldschoolcars.com/hid-kits-and-prices.html).
I have had them for approx 1500 miles and I honestly can't say anything bad about them.
I did have to trim the headlight bucket for the housings to fit. Speaking of the housings, I didn't really like the housings he sent me.....they looked stock which is something I am trying to avoid, so I bought some nice projector lense fitted housings.
If I were to say anything bad about them, they are pretty difficult to aim, but once you have them like you want them, you can see more road on low beams only than pretty much any halogen high beam will ever show.
I especially like how the big green roadsigns really light up when the HID bulb hits them.....it makes em pop from about a half mile away. Oh....and I have never been high beamed as of yet.
Hope this helps,
~Joe
BTW....I'll try and take some pics for you guys.
Kokamo Oct 16th, 09, 11:29 PM Well, I took the time to make a small video of my headlights, I would like to get a few good shots while driving just to show how good it looks. I might be able to get that this weekend, stay tuned.
I also snapped a few shots if you have any interest......

Thanks Bill. I assume you have had prior experience with the "stiff" doors eh? :D
Well, I took some pics for you guys. I had been forgetting to take these pics until just the other night coming back from a meet. The first one is on the inside lane and the second is in the outside lane (4 lane highway).
Personally, I like the beam pattern. It has a cutoff point about 30 feet out and it seems to have good to decent light emitted to the sides of the road. I tried to make the hot spots favor the right of the road so these bright assed lights don't blind people. These HID's are truly amazing. I have yet for anyone to high beam me.With these, I can see things 3 times as far as my normal high beam halogen bulbs and these are on low beam only. Simply amazing. Here are the pix!!!!........

Pro-Street69Camaro468 Dec 10th, 09, 05:07 AM Looks good Joe I think I could probably see with them as I am blind.Where did you get them and how pricey are they if you dont mind me asking. They aren't the $850 ones are they.DSE has some for like $200 or so.
Kokamo Dec 10th, 09, 05:53 AM Thanks Dave. Check out post #8 in this thread....it tells where I got em. The housings are the cheap ones I found on e-bay. They are cheap, but they seem to work well. I haven't had any problems and it passes inspection with no problems. The only thing I see wrong with the housings is you have to modify your headlight bucket which alot of people will not do. I have about 3 or 4 friends that want this lighting system, but they won't do it simply because they will have to cut on their "original" headlight bucket.
Oh well. Their loss, my gain!

Joe, may I ask WHY you got the 12K kit? Was it for the purple light? Why didn't you get the kit that produces the most light output? When it comes to HID, the higher the number does not mean more light output. The higher the number, the more purplish the light becomes. The 4300K kit produces the most light. I do like the projector housings though. Why not tell your friends to simply buy replacement buckets? That way they don't have to trim their originals. I run the 4300K kit and they are fantastic. Mine are only single xenon though. I see you opted for the bi-xenon setup. What does the high beam look like?

The reason I chose the 12K was in fact because of the blueish light output. This entire car build is based on being different, so the fact that had the chance on getting lights that looked exotic, I jumped on it. and yes, I knew the lower kelvin numbers mean more output, but being that this car rarely sees nighttime driving, I settled for looks rather than safety.....BUT, don't lt that fool you, the 12K lights are amazing. For as bright as these are, they are 10 times the light output of a standard halogen light. Not to mention the comments of the looks and quality I get from people at shows and gas stations.
For the high beams....hehehe......I don't use em. They are a joke. Compared to the HID lighting, they help ZERO. Put it this way....I have never used them and prolly never will. The only way I will use them is to high beam other drivers with their high beams on, other than that....won't use em.

67CamaroRS/SS Dec 11th, 09, 07:14 AM Now that I look at the pic again, I see that your high beam is actually a standard halogen. They make a kit that is bi-xenon. They have both hi and low beam hid. Didn't the place where you bought your kit offer a bi-xenon kit? Right now I only have the low beam kits because that was all they made when I bought mine, but I am going to upgrade to the bi-xenon kit later. I can only imagine what a high beam xenon looks like. I know the standard xenon is bright, but there are times when the high beam would come in handy. I plan on taking this car on LONG trips and if I happen to be on a long highway at night, I want high beams. Plus, whenever someone comes toward me who likes to drive with their high's on all the time, I want to be able to flash them so they turn them off. Not only for me, but for the other drivers as well.
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Dec 16th, 09, 05:43 AM Joe I finaly made it back which one did you get the $160 or $185.How about the wires are the pretty easy and canal this stuff be tucked away. Thanks for the help.....Again I do like the way it looks purplish is wild......
Kokamo Dec 16th, 09, 09:44 AM Dave, the kit I bought was the $160 kit. I was told my multiple people that the low beam was more than enough and the high beams were dangerous (to other cars).....and I will say that the low beams are well more than enough. The cheaper kit has the HID low beam and the regular incandescent high beam. The $185 kit has an HID low beam and an HID high beam.
As far as the wiring, it's a simple plug and play. No relays to hook up, nothing to re-wire from your stock harness. Just plug it in and go. The factory halogen headlight plug....it simply plugs into the HID ballast harness. The ballast has a plug that plugs into the bulb harness. All the wires are kinda bulky, but if you use a few wire ties and some patience, you will get it tucked away quite nicely. You will need to mount the ballast to the inner fender well. I would not recommend any kind of adhesive or tape. The ballast gets quite warm and the glue will eventually fail. I used aluminum pop rivits and secured it to the fender well. It's been working great for the past 1500 miles.....hadn't had any problems as of yet.

Pro-Street69Camaro468 Dec 16th, 09, 05:19 PM Thanks Joe maybe momma can talk santa into bringing them for me.I think I may have gotten my xmas present new tires and a new fender for my work trailer.$400 dollars but well needed had a blow out last night and the tire ripped off the fender...
mk1aintnomark Dec 17th, 09, 09:50 PM Joe what bulbs do you have in the fogs? It looks like you have some purpleish bulbs in there too but they light up the standard yellows color?
Thanks.

Spencer, those are the turn signals.....no fog lights...hehehe.....yet anyway. They are the factory park/turn signal housings. I used an LED inside the housing to give it the purplish accent. You can find the bulb at www.autolumination.com (http://www.autolumination.com/). They have an amazing selection of bulbs for sure. to find the bulb I used, look on THIS (http://autolumination.com/194.htm) page and find the "inverted lenses".....they are about 2/3's of the way to the bottom. The color I used is the ultra violet, or as described, "UV". It's more people than what the pictures show. If you use these bulbs, you will need a grommet/pigtail for it. They are located at the bottom of the page.
I used the same LED's in the headlights, (you can clearly see it in the 2nd picture of post #9) that's why you see the same "purple haze" in all the lights. It goes pretty well at the shows/meets that run late into the evening.
And yes, the factory style amber 1157 lights up in amber.....you can't even tell the UV light is even in the housing.
Good luck with it.
~Joe
