I am unsure where I should put the neg battery cable. I am using a customer alt bracket, aluminum heads and alum water pump. I am guessing it would go to the block, but was looking for suggestions as to where

I have mine on the bottom alternator mounting bolt...and have all the ground stapes from the engine to body and chassis.

Hi Ken,

I always place my battery cable on the engine block, lower passenger side and X2 with
the ground straps.

The starter is the main current load. As long as the ground cable is connected to the block such that the starter can pull a few hundred amps through it without a voltage drop you'll be fine. As for ground straps, those are primarily noise suppression devices although they also provide a return path for the oil pressure and temp sensors that are grounded to the block. The main body ground is a pig tail lead from the battery (-) to the right fender just below the hood channel.
