View Full Version : Has anyone else noticed "search" is changed?
Eric Kammerer Sep 2nd, 09, 12:22 PM If you type in more than one term in search now, it no longer finds only posts with all the keywords, but instead grabs posts with any of the key words. There is no option, even on advanced, to make the search produce only threads/posts with ALL the selected keywords. It is making it very difficult to help folks out, finding archived materials. Can it be fixed so it works the way it used to?
jjbaldw Sep 2nd, 09, 01:55 PM Agreed. Searches with ANY keyword vs. ALL keywords make it almost impossible to narrow down some searches enough to get meaningful results. Hopefully it can be switched back.
SPARKY69 Sep 2nd, 09, 01:59 PM ive noticed that also!!
Eric Kammerer Sep 2nd, 09, 02:09 PM Good, I am not losing my mind...
Mike_M Sep 2nd, 09, 02:51 PM I noticed that too, but assumed I was doing something wrong...
SRGN Sep 2nd, 09, 09:41 PM Yup, it sucks. Boolean search terms (+, -, etc.) no longer work either.
Eric Kammerer Sep 4th, 09, 06:32 PM Well, can it be fixed so that specifc information can be located herein once again? Or are we doomed to be unable to help ourselves or others.
Oh how I long for the good old days, when you could search for "big coil springs" to find springs that work for big block applications. Now we get 16 pages of threads that have any of the three terms in them, and the specific thread you're looking for doesn't even make it into the 16 page max of threads.
Please, please, please tell us it can be fixed, TheDon.
JimM Sep 4th, 09, 08:35 PM I'll bring this up in the back room, seems no one is watching out here?
Mike_M Sep 5th, 09, 06:22 AM Thanks Jim

UM Dave ,it's a holiday w/e and Don bolt's out at 3:00 on a normal day,so don't expect anything until Tuesday
Eric Kammerer Sep 9th, 09, 12:57 PM Any update on this? I tried an advanced search with a single keyword and a certain username, and got all the posts by the username, whether or not they had the keyword in it.
Steptoe Sep 9th, 09, 02:39 PM Bottom line....without a good seach function makes all the information in the forums useless...
And when it comes to detailed complex subjects, like dizzy curves, means rhat people have to re write long winded explanations over and over.
Just replace the code /files before the change was made...I do hope that backups are still around other wise someone has a mission on their hands.
Eric Kammerer Sep 9th, 09, 03:09 PM That's is what I am hoping, that whatever was changed following the changeover to new management here can be reverse easily.
We have such a wealth of info here, but it has gotten to be such a bear to find (and with a max of 16 pages of threads, some info may never see the light of day again) it is impossible to help folks out.
There have been a dozen threads or so in the past few weeks that I wanted to help with, but the info cannot be found.
I know that we had a long holiday weekend here in the US, but 7 days without even a peep on something that is important and would seem to be a simple fix seems odd.
zlek131 Sep 9th, 09, 03:54 PM Noticed the same thing. Glad you brought it up as it was driving me nuts.
Just "flip a couple bits in the master catalog" and we'll back in business. :D
clwilcox33 Sep 10th, 09, 07:42 AM Sorry folks....a couple of us mods have been working to find a solution to this issue. We're still waiting to hear back from the tech guy. He's been very busy lately.
zlek131 Sep 10th, 09, 08:59 AM Somthing to bounce of your tech guy....
If I'm not mistaken this forum is powered by vBulletin. The boolean search logic (multi words) only works with with FULLTEXT (search type) enabled. Perhaps this option was accidentally disabled during migration to the new servers???? If so, simply enabling it and rebuilding the indexes should do the trick and bring back the feature we're looking for.
TheDon Sep 10th, 09, 09:58 AM We are looking into this now. AFAIK there were no changes to the board software that accompanied the switch onto the new network. There may be a software setting somewhere...

Thanks for the suggestion, but FULLTEXT is enabled.

TheDon Sep 15th, 09, 12:21 PM Hey guys:
Try it now. Hopefully it is working as you expect...
Thanks... Don
zlek131 Sep 15th, 09, 12:36 PM Much better. Search on "soft seats" returns 3 pages of results while before it was 13 pages....Thanks!!!
Eric Kammerer Sep 15th, 09, 02:53 PM Thanks! We can find info again!
