We found a stock 8.5" for an S10. Quite rare. It wasn't cheap!
This has the Gov Loc device. Or Govenor Lock as they are called.

Here is a pic...sorry if it's too big.

I have heard bad things about these in the 7.5" rear, but not in the larger rears. This will go in a street strip car.
It appears there are also clutches in this rear. Am I correct?

I really would like to use this as is, don't want to break it. And after the $$$ we spent, really don't want to replace the carrier. (I'd go with a True Track, or Torsen as they used to be called.)

We are hoping for low 12's, maybe a bit quicker with drag radials.

Thanks,

Ron

I replaced the Gov Loc Posi in my G20 Van with an Eaton 8.5 Posi Unit. I would not use the Gov Loc.

You will break the Gov Lock, no question about it. I don't recommend a Truetrac or Torsen for drag racing. The Eaton Posi or Detroit Locker would be a better choice. If it will see a lot of street time then go with the Eaton. If it's mostly for drag racing then go with the Detroit Locker.

Dont race that Gov-lock! I'd use a auburn out of a 88-98big car-impala ect - they can be had reasonable but you need to check the cones for wear. If the S10 rear is 99 or newer it has larger carrier bearings than the 98 and older 8.5's and your gonna have to see if they make adapter bearings or go aftermarket (read-Expensive) for a big bearing posi
