I'm not sure Fred....but it would be a major Bummer if they failed...:noway:
Skeeter55 Sep 3rd, 09, 08:14 AM That right.... Thanks for the reminder Mike!!! Guess will be staying close to home.
RSSSfanatic Sep 3rd, 09, 08:52 AM It says a lot that San Francisco can get an entire bridge span installed in a weekend, while here in Louisville they have been trying to get a bridge built to connect our main outer beltway for over 25 years. Hell, it took several years and three different contractors just to get one of our existing bridges repainted! Local government is pretty much a podunk circus who bows to the demands of well-heeled folks in the east end, but don't get me started... :)
Fred I do believe this is being done by C C Meyers... They are the ones from AZ that replaced that east bay overpass under budget and over a weekend or something like that. They brought in pre-fab'd sections from AZ if I recall.
What I heard on the news was there is one point in the weekends undertaking that depending on how it goes could close the bridge indefinitely. It has to do with the condition of the existing structure left after severing the area being replaced. Let's hope all goes well on this one!

Don't feel alone...It's been 20 years since the earthquake for California to replace the bridge...another 5 or so to finish...If this was SoCal it would have been done in a few months...;)
We're getting a new bridge too, a bypass just below Hoover Dam to eliminate the drive across the dam. I know everyone likes pics, just thought I'd share.

Fred Mertz Sep 3rd, 09, 02:33 PM C.C. Myers is based in Sacramento. They also did the 210 freeway in SoCal when the Northridge quake hit.
You are right Fred... They did sub work to suppliers in AZ as well as other states... Here's the story;

Actually this is on the Oakland side. The SF side isnt being touched. And due to Oakland politics the cost changed from proposed 500 Million, to BILLIONS.
The steel parts are shipped premade from China:sad:
This eastern span of the Bay bridge is not scheduled to be completed until 2013.
(How many of those facts can be said about the Golden Gate across the Bay)
K and K Sep 3rd, 09, 04:45 PM ....and dont worry, this new East span of the bridge is yeaaars behind schedule.

Calpantera Oct 28th, 09, 08:28 AM I thought the traffic was going to be much worse but according the SigAlert it does not look that bad. Look like the San Mateo and Richmond bridges are packed but the GG and the freeways look good for this time of the day..

Lexlas Oct 28th, 09, 08:31 AM I lined up at bart at 5:37am this morning and parking lot was just about full. It was like watching ants going toward the bart stop, big mess but i made it to work. If i would have woke up late i would not have made it. Many people will be out of work today.
DjD Oct 28th, 09, 08:36 AM It's gotten so much media attention here you would have to be in a coma not to have heard about the bridge. When they closed the 3 lanes it instantly was being reported as a 4 hour delay. Then they closed it completely, imagine sitting there for hours and they start re-routing everyone...
Lexlas Oct 28th, 09, 09:12 AM Here's a picture of the bay bridge a few minutes ago and as you can see not one car, very strange. I took this from one of our conference rooms from the 28th floor. Normally at this time you will see headlights all over the bridge but as you can see there is nothing. Strange it is.

Vintage 68 Oct 28th, 09, 06:08 PM Impressive photo Lex
Took me almost 2.5hrs to get from Moraga to Richmond this morning
First half hour was through the tunnels to McArther Bart station to drop the misses off as the Orinda lot was full and the platform was really crowded.
Next was over 2 hours from 580 to 580/80 north to 580/Richmond-San Rafael bridge then the Richmond Pkwy exit (due to all the folks detouring acroos R/SR bridge to the Gloden Gate ) - ran out of coffee before University Ave ... I was not in a good mood :noway:
The wife can walk to Bart tomorrow and I'll take San Pablo Dam road in
